Smartphone (or tablet PC) keyboards are tricky compared to desktop/laptop keyboards and most of the time, people simply can't be bothered to type in website addresses on their Smartphone.
A QR code is used by marketers to simplify the process and therefore, entice more people into visiting a website or a piece of content. This is why marketers regularly place QR codes on banners, business cards, flyers, leaflets, posters and so forth.

Basically, a QR code works in the same way as a barcode at the supermarket. It is a machine-scannable image that can instantly be read using a Smartphone camera. Every QR code consists of a number of black squares and dots which represent certain pieces of information. When your Smartphone scans this code, it translate that information into something that can be easily understand by humans.
Quite simply, a QR code is an encoded piece of data. The data in a QR code can be alphanumeric, numeric, binary or Kanji (Kanji is a form of Chinese characters that are used in the modern Japanese writing system)
Although that is the technical explanation of how a QR code works, something much more important to focus on is the fact that QR codes can be scanned at the touch of a button by the hundreds of millions of people around the world that use a Smartphone on a daily basis. This makes them great for marketers.
If you've ever scanned a QR code with your Smartphone, you'll likely have noticed that they can be scanned extremely quickly (we're talking within a second-or-two here). This makes QR codes an extremely simple way to access stored information in an instant which in-turn, makes them a perfect solution to conversion-hungry marketers.
Most smartphones have built-in QR scanners, which are sometimes built in the camera of the phone. A QR scanner is simply a way to scan QR codes that can accessible fast and Easy.

Scanning a QR code using your device is straightforward, Easy and Fast:
Open the QR scanner application on the camera of your smartphone.
Point it at the QR code – you should be able to point your camera clearly from any angle and still receive the necessary information to scan the QR code.
The data will be instantly shown on screen – for instance, if the QR code contains contact details, your phone should instantly download these or Copy paste.

A QR code is a simple, fast, and secure way to share an address when transferring cryptocurrency between two devices.
This is especially useful in face-to-face point-of-sale transactions, because copy and paste isn’t an option and it avoids having to type in very long codes by hand (if you get even one character wrong, it won’t work).
In simple terms, to send crypto via a QR code:
The recipient needs to display the QR code of the address they want a specific cryptocurrency sent to. This is done with software, either merchant software designed for crypto or a wallet app.
The sender needs to scan the recipient’s QR code. Specifically, they need to open a wallet app that has a balance of the cryptocurrency being requested, enter the amount they want to send, select the QR option, scan the recipient’s QR code to get their address, verify everything is correct (the amount being sent AND the address), and then confirm the transaction. TIP: Scanning a QR code only grabs the public address of the recipient. It does not grab other data, you’ll still need to fill in the amount being sent and account for network fees as needed.
TIP: Addresses are coin specific, you cannot for example send ETH to a BTC address.
