Saturday, October 8, 2022 yesterday and in some parts today. All Muslims in the world commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad SAW or often called Mawlid which aims to remember and be grateful for the birth of a role model for all mankind. In addition, there is also a goal in commemorating the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad lil uswah, which is to emphasize the faith that the Prophet Muhammad is a role model for all Muslims. Where the Prophet Muhammad is the only messenger of Allah who spreads and guides Muslims to carry out the commands and teachings of Allah. So, the whole world, especially Indonesia, held this event solemnly, happily and full of joy.

Every country and region celebrates the birth of Prophet Muhammad in various ways. In Indonesia also has a tradition of various unique traditions in welcoming this happy moment. Because it is celebrated once a year. This time I want to share special food or dishes to welcome the birthday of the prophet Muhammad in Indonesia, especially those in my area. And these dishes can be an additional reference for you and are suitable for all read.cash friends' tongues.

Tradition of celebrating the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad

The tradition of celebrating birthdays at my place is routinely held every year and this has been happening for a long time. And it was held from morning to midnight. So, the community 2 days before the event will prepare and clean the place where the event will be held. Usually the event is held in the mosque. Apart from that, they put up several tents, decorated the pulpit because there would be a grand da'wah for this event.

On the day of the event, starting in the morning. There are chants of sholawat (praise to the Prophet) in the mosque until noon. Then in the courtyard of the mosque under the tent, there is a long table filled with special food for the birthday celebration, which was donated by residents living around the mosque. Orphans are the priority guests in this presentation and also several invitees from outside the mosque environment will be invited to this event to eat special Maulid cuisine with orphans. And here looks enthusiastic from their faces. In addition to this, the menu is not often available and is more pronounced when eaten at events like this.

Continued at night, namely listening to religious lectures with specially invited speakers from outside the area. Usually these lectures take place from 9 to 12 at night.

That's a little explanation of the tradition when celebrating Maulid or the birth of the Prophet Muhammad in my area

Mawlid celebration specialties

After I tell the tradition, now I want to share the types of food or special Maulid dishes that are in my area. Because, I'm sure each one must have a special food for the celebration of Maulid.

¤ Cone-shaped rice

Rice wrapped in banana leaves that have been cut into shape. The most trending shape is the conical shape. In my place we call it " Nasi Kulah ". Not all can do it or form a shape like this, including me. Because there is a special technique when wrapping it. And this cone-shaped rice is also made at other special events such as weddings, inauguration of formal and religious events. Cone-shaped rice or "Nasi Kulah" is a tradition in my area. For rice, you can use white rice, cat rice, etc.

¤ Salted duck egg

Who has ever eaten duck eggs? If the duck egg is salted, have you tried it? Salted eggs are one of the important menus when commemorating the birthday or birthday of the Prophet. It has become a tradition. And to make salted eggs requires a long process and special materials. Who ever made it?

¤ Balado egg or red chili sauce

This balado egg is a menu that is routinely available during birthday celebrations in my area. Balado eggs can also be cooked on weekdays. However, it becomes an important menu when commemorating birthdays or other celebrations. If you want to try Balado eggs.

The ingredients are :

  • Egg

  • Red chili

  • Onion

  • Garlic

  • Tomatoes

How to make :

  • First, the eggs are boiled. To boil eggs, you should heat the water until the foam comes out, enter the eggs. Boil for 12 - 15 minutes for the eggs to be perfectly cooked.

  • Then, after it cools down a bit peel the eggs.

  • Then, puree red chilies, red and white onions, tomatoes. Heat the oil, add the ground spices. Preferably, not too much oil because it will make the sauce runny. While sautéing add oil little by little if the chili feels a little dry. If the chili sauce is too oily when the eggs are added it doesn't stick to the eggs

  • Finally, when the chili sauce is just right, the texture has slightly thickened, add the eggs and stir until the sauce is well mixed with the eggs.

For a more fragrant chili before sauteing the chili sauce or spices that have been ground, I first fry the fried onions and pandan leaves. Sambal Balado will be very fragrant.

¤ Meat

Cook beef, curry chicken and white cooked duck

This is the main menu of Maulid's special cuisine, namely cooking meat. Here it's up to what meat you want. However, I prefer to cook free-range chicken or duck meat. There can be various types of meat dishes, there are beef or chicken cooked in curry, duck cooked in white. But now there are many additional types of other meat dishes such as fried chicken, chicken cooked in soy sauce etc. But generally the meat that is cooked is curry.

¤ Shrimp cook white and cook curry

This one is also a special menu of the maulid celebration. Shrimp mixed with potatoes. There are shrimp cook white and shrimp curry dishes. Have made it ?

To make white cooked prawns:

  • Cayenne pepper

  • Red onion

  • Garlic

  • hazelnut

  • pepper

  • a little coriander

  • potato

  • coconut milk

Puree the spices, stir-fry add the cleaned prawns and potatoes, mix well, finally add the coconut milk. Stir until slightly thickened. It doesn't take long because the prawns cook quickly

¤ Melinjo crackers

As a complement to the menu, there are additional crackers. The crackers that are often the choice are melinjo crackers. Melinjo if in scientific language Gnetum gnemon Linn. This plant has seeds that are 2-2.5 cm long with an ellipse shape, a short tapered tip, and consist of three layers of skin, namely: sarcotesta, sclerotesta, and endotesta. Sarcotesta (outer skin) when young is green and gradually changes color to yellow and dark red after cooking.

This cooked one is made into crackers in many stages. Because of that melinjo crackers are a little expensive compared to other crackers.

And also has small and large leaves, with four leaf shapes, namely round, oval, and oblong. The leaves are usually mixed with other vegetables.

And actually there are many other menus typical of Maulid in my area. But, I can not describe one by one. However, the description above is the main dish that is usually cooked when commemorating the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad in my area.

Each region must have its own traditions when welcoming and commemorating the birthday of the prophet Muhammad. Commemorating the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad is not obligatory but not prohibited. As long as it doesn't deviate from the real Islamic context.

The purpose of commemorating the Prophet's birthday is to remember, be grateful for the birth of the leader of the ummah who has brought light to the universe.
