In the coastal area of Satkhira, millions of people have been stranded due to the collapse of the embankment due to the overflowing river and strong currents. Locals said that the dams were collapsing one after another due to the intense pressure of the river water as the repaired embankments were weakened after the last three days of incessant rains. Fifty villages in four unions of Shyamnagar and Asashuni upazilas were reported to have been flooded since Friday morning due to high tide in the river.

Asashuni Upazila Parishad Vice-Chairman Asim Baran Chakraborty said locals built a ring dam with bamboo after the cyclone. The renovated dams have all been broken by the tide. The Kapulaksh and Kholpetua river dams have been breached and Sriula and Pratapnagar unions have been completely inundated. Millions of people have been flooded.

He said the dams in Hazrakhola area of Sriula union and Kurikaonia, Hijlia, Kola, Chakla and Harishkhali areas of Pratapnagar union have been breached and the whole area has been flooded.

GM Masudul Islam, chairman of Gabura Union Parishad in Shyamnagar, said the dam broke in the Lebugunia area last Thursday due to strong tides in Kopotaksh. The locals repair it voluntarily. Due to tonnage of rain and rising water in the river, the dam broke again at two places near it around 2 pm on Friday. The villages of Lebugunia, Chokbara, Gabura and Kholpetua have been flooded. Thousands of people have been stranded in these flooded areas. He said the army would start work on repairing the dam from November.

Shyamnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abuzar Ghiffari said erosion had occurred at several points in Gabura area. Water is entering the locality during high tide. Locals have started work to renovate the dam at Swechchashram. How many families have been flooded and the amount of damage will be known later.

Abul Khair, executive engineer (Shyamnagar) of Satkhira Water Development Board-1, said the local people and administration had built a ring dam in Lebugunia after the cyclone. It has broken six points. Work is underway to repair them. Fractures occurred at two more points around noon on Friday. We have started work for reform. The problem is that there is no soil in the area of the broken dam.

Executive Engineer (Asashuni) of Satkhira Water Development Board-2 Sudhanshu said erosion has occurred in various places including Chakla, Hijla and Kola. The army has been given the responsibility to repair the dams in Chakla Hijla and Kola areas. Since the rainy season is underway, the army has not started work for him. As soon as they get a working environment, they will start protecting the dam.
