We all go through tough periods where we feel we can't cope with negative feelings or are overloaded with them; often these hard times can offer a beating to our mental equilibrium. When we fall and break a limb to go and seek medical treatment, we learn that; but what do we do when our mental state is broken? How does one go about it being remedied? There is no shame in being honest about mental illness; several forms of treatment are available; each functions differently to help patients feel better and change in the end.

One of them is art therapy; it is not really shocking to assume that art is used to cure and support, because it has been understood for a long time that art moves feelings. In order to understand life and find pleasure, people have always looked at art. Without the existence of art, human past is difficult to tell; it is an important part of humanity.

Recently, the availability of coloring books for adults has seen a boom. Many are advertised as a means of relief from stress and a way to be more aware; there is truth to that. In essence, art is therapeutic; it allows you to reach another aspect of yourself, and allows you to express yourself in a non-verbal manner.

This is basically what art therapy tries to accomplish; it helps people to convey their inner state through art. To express how you feel and what you think, you can paint, sculpt, doodle, colour, or draw. In the art they make, art therapists are trained to find out what colors, symbols, and textures might mean, and unravel the meanings. Art therapy allows individuals to explore their feelings, boost self-esteem, control addictions, alleviate stress, strengthen anxiety and depression symptoms, and deal with a disability or physical illness.

Often words fall short; we want to convey a concept or a feeling we have encountered, but we really don't know how to express when we come to articulate. Emotions and emotions are nuanced and lie outside the realm of verbal speech occasionally. Through examining what they make in an art therapy session, individuals may overcome interpersonal issues and become more self-aware with the assistance of their therapist.

In order to enjoy the advantages of art therapy, individuals do not have to be skilled in the arts; art therapy is about freedom of speech and its meaning, and not about creative abilities or talent. In combination with psychiatric methods, art therapists also use psychological, spiritual, and creative theories to obtain the desired therapeutic outcome. It will make it easier for them to access their own feelings and thoughts as patients create art, since the actual piece of art makes it more visible and easier to speak about their problems.

It is of a great help to art therapy. It expresses our inner lives and makes it possible for us to discover another part of who we are. Humans are complex; one can unravel unconscious problems that we have and psychological wounds that cause us pain through art therapy. We can then move on to recovery and rehabilitation by recognizing the concerns and problems we have. After all, art is cathartic and is a powerful means of change and development.
