1. Door to Hell:
How strange is the name? But there is also an agreed reason behind the naming of this mysterious hole. At present, in the Darwaza region, 270 kilometers north of Asgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, lies the mysterious "Gate of Hell."
It is known that about 46 years ago today, in 1971, a group of Soviet Russian geologists set up a base in search of natural gas in this Darwaza region rich in natural gas. After several days of research, they started excavating in the area where they were excavating, which was called a massive landslide and immediately created a huge hole 60 meters deep.
Not only that, methane gas gradually started emanating from that hole. This toxic methane gas emission was causing serious pollution to the environment as well as becoming increasingly dangerous to the people living in the Darwaza area. Geologists initially thought that the amount of gas would not be too much,
So they set fire to the hole to get rid of the methane gas quickly. But since that beginning, the fire in that huge hole has been burning for almost five decades. Nowadays this mysterious hole has increased the attraction of tourists. About 50,000 people flock here every year to see this dangerous Door to Hell. In 2010, the president of Turkmenistan expressed his desire to put out a fire in a methane-filled hole and build a plant there, but it has not started yet.
2.Guatemala City Sinkhole:
A catastrophic landslide on a road northeast of Guatemala City in 2006 over an area of about 30 square meters, with a depth of about 100 meters. Many houses collapsed in this horrific accident, 4 people lost their lives. About 1,000 people were evacuated from the scene due to security concerns.
According to the investigation, the catastrophic collapse was due to the rupture of the sewer pipe under the ground and the weakening of the chemical mixed water with limestone, volcanic ash and other mixed stones. The Guatemalan government then closed the huge hole with soil and concrete at a cost of about Tk 23 crore. But exactly three years later, in 2010, a similar catastrophic landslide struck Guatemala City.
The collapse destroyed an entire factory, killing 15 people. The same information came up in the investigation again. Scientists say similar incidents could happen in the future if the sewerage system is not changed.
