Hey It’s good to be back after taking a break for a while!
I know for a fact that I already shared a glimpse on how I transform my hobbies into a source of income. But don’t get carried away cause its up to you if you’ll make it as a permanent work or just a slide line. Whichever your option is you’ll definitely earn money and enjoying your hobbies at the same time.
What is/are my hobbies?
Personally, drawing, painting, and singing are my hobbies, but I didn’t just consider these as a simple hobby which are only intended for entertainment rather, I think of these as my talents which I can use to earn money.
How did these hobbies help me?
Honestly speaking, I don’t earn money from singing cause I barely tell or show to anyone about that talent. However, drawing and painting does the trick. At first, I create my artworks just for fun and just to kill my time. Then suddenly someone sent me a message asking if I’m open for a commission and since I fancy making artworks, I accepted it. That was the time I started accepting commissions.
How did I start?
Just like I said from above, it just so happens that someone approached me and ask to me If I want to paint something for him and he’ll pay me in return. Honestly, I’m not satisfied of my work that time but it was worth it. Wondering what’s my first commissioned painting is? Don’t worry it’s the painting below.
The painting was simple and not as good as it should be but it was commissioned that way so I don’t have any worries about the results. Its price was 500 PHP, and for a starter its quite high already and compared to all the materials I used it was justified, just imagine, I only used a little amount of paint which are actually my stocks and are only meant for entertainment plus I only used illustration board which was only 15 pesos plus I spent one day to finish the painting then I earned 500 pesos in return. I was very happy that day because who would have thought that from a simple past time, I can actually earn a lot.
Is it permanent or just a part time?
It’s up to you because honestly, making such paintings or drawings need a lot of time to finish and so much effort to do so but then again, the profit that you might earn from this doesn’t lie.
Did I Continue?
The answer is yes, I still accept commissioned paintings occasionally but right now I’m focused to graphite and charcoal portraits because I really appreciate the beauty of black and white when it comes to portraits. And if you are wondering, I also earn from it. The price of each portraits ranges from 150- 500 pesos or it will depend from the materials needed. Take a look at the picture below as an example of my work.
Advice/s
For those who wants to learn or improve their drawings always remember to take a breath and do not rush everything because it might just result into unjustified artworks. Time effort and passion is important for you to create such a wonderful master piece. If you manage to do that and become proud of what you can do, others will surely like and recommend it too.
For beginners or for those who want to try it, remember to put a grid on your paper before starting to draw so that you can achieve the right symmetry of your subject. If you can’t finish it in just one sitting that’s okay, time is relevant and rest is essential.
You might as well check or watch tutorials in YouTube if you really want to improve your skills but make sure to find your own style. When it comes to pricing don’t show any lack of confidence on your work because they might ask for a lower price.
That's all for this article, Right now, I still need to finish one portrait and there are four more clients waiting for me to finish their portraits. the image below is my proof.
I hope I serve as an inspiration to you guys and I hope this article of mine contributes at least a little encouragement for you.
