Hearing instruments are commonly used on a daily basis and are constantly exposed to negative environmental influences. It is important to understand that today's hearing aids are highly sophisticated digital devices and that in order to keep them working reliably they must be cared for regularly and properly.

We move around a lot, we sweat, and our fingers are not always clean. And then there is the physiological process of earwax secretion and exposure to different weather conditions. All of these factors affect hearing aids every day.

Hearing instruments must be kept dry. High humidity and water vapor condensing inside the hearing instrument during the day can cause short circuits, oxidation of internal components and increased current consumption. This phenomenon is particularly common in summer. Therefore, a drying agent must be used. These can be special dehumidifying capsules or electric dryers for your hearing instruments.

Place the hearing instruments overnight in the special drying capsule or in the electric dryer. Remember to detach the earmolds, open the battery drawers and remove the batteries.

Your instruments will last much longer if you dry them regularly.

Clean your hearing aids with a soft, dry cloth.

Do not wash your hearing aids with water or other liquids. Cleaning with alcohol, thinner or any other cleaning agent that is not specifically designed for this purpose is strictly prohibited.

Do not forget personal hygiene precautions.

If the sound outlet of the hearing aid is clogged with earwax, it must be removed with the special cleaning tools.

Turn the hearing aids off when you are not using them.

Do not expose your hearing aids to high temperatures or high humidity.

Never use a hair dryer or hairspray while wearing your hearing aids.

Remove your hearing aids before you go in the shower, pool or sauna. This also applies to moisture resistant hearing aids.

Never try to take your hearing instruments apart or repair them yourself if they break. Take your instruments to a service centre.

Never leave your hearing aids near heat, X-rays or electromagnetic radiation.

Do not leave your hearing instruments in areas accessible to small children and pets.

Important: Use only the batteries specified in the instructions for use.

CLEANING AND CARE OF YOUR HEARING AIDS

The outside of the hearing instruments is not resistant to dust and dirt. The microphone compartment and internal parts of modern hearing aids are protected by filters and gaskets. These should be replaced at regular intervals. This should be done at the frequency specified in the operating instructions.

Earmold care - Your hearing aid earmolds should be cleaned of earwax every day. The brushes provided with the hearing instruments are for this purpose.

The earmolds must be disinfected. To do this they are dipped in a disinfectant solution that can be prepared using special cleaning tablets for hearing aids.

Silicone floss is used to clean the earmold channels.

HOW TO CLEAN THE EARMOLDS CORRECTLY:

Carefully detach the tubing that connects the earmold and hearing instrument from the earhook of the hearing instrument.

Ø Place the earmold tubing together with the earmold tubing in a beaker with an effervescent solution (earmold cleaning tablets + water). Leave it to soak for 2 hours or more to remove the dirt and earwax.

Ø Afterwards, rinse the earmold in warm running water.

Ø Wipe the earmold with a soft, dry cloth. Ø Dry the sound channel of the earmold with a blower cup.

Ø Place the earmold on a soft, dry cloth overnight and allow it to dry. The sound outlet of the earmold should be facing downwards to remove any residual moisture. Ensure that the tubing and earmold are completely dry before reattaching them to the hearing instrument. Water or moisture can block the passage of sound. It is therefore important to remove moisture from the earmold and connecting tube regularly using a blower bottle.

Ø Connect the tube and the earmold to the hearing aid.

Ø The plastic tubing should always be soft and resilient. If it has yellowed or become stiff, it should be replaced.

Ø Once the earmold has been inserted and the hearing instrument has been worn behind the ear, turn it on.

CARE OF IN-THE-EAR, IN-CANAL AND RECEIVER INSTRUMENTS

To prevent earwax from entering the sound outlet, a wax filter is used on ITE hearing aids, canal earmolds and receiver earmolds. The filter is a small plastic nozzle that attaches to the sound outlet of the hearing aid.

In the case of ITE hearing aids, canal earmolds and earmolds with a receiver, the filter is fitted with
