Diabetes means the presence of excess amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. The desired amount of blood glucose (blood sugar) is determined by the type of diabetes, age of the patient and other conditions or coexistence of the disease. If a diabetic patient's blood glucose is higher than the desired amount, we call it diabetes and hyperglycemia. Blood glucose in these patients may be low for various reasons (hypoglycemia).
The World Health Organization and some other international organizations have set specific blood glucose levels for hyperglycemia.
Diabetes treatment is your target
Blood sugar (in uncomplicated young or old patients) 5-6 mmol / liter (5.6) in fasting state 2 hours after meals: 9 mmol / liter (7.8)
Blood sugar (in elderly and complicated patients)
In case of starvation: 7 mmol / liter (6.0)
2 hours after meals: 10 mmol / liter (9.0)
During pregnancy
Blood sugar in fasting state..5.0 mmol / liter
2 hours after meal..8.0 mmol / liter
Why a diabetic patient has hyperglycemia
First, not taking the right amount of diabetes medication (food medication or insulin). This may be mainly due to the imperfections of the physician's medical procedures; Or the patient moves on to the next step in the process of bringing the right amount of diabetes medication.
Diabetes is treated every day. Excess glucose (uncontrolled diabetes) can also occur if a patient is unable to adjust medication on their own or refrains from seeking medical attention for a long time.
In a short time, blood glucose may rise for the following reasons:
* Abruptly stop taking diabetes medication (food medication or insulin).
* Increased intake of sugary foods.
* If you are mentally unbalanced.
* If infected with a bacterial infection.
* Start taking some drugs such as steroids.
