Splinterlands | Winning Against the Llama | With A Regular Summoner

0 52

Introduction

Playing in the Silver League does not put you across many Legendary summoners, and therefore, my strategies against them are limited. No, it’s not limited but non-existent. 😊

But lately, I have come across many Legendary summoners, including the Llama (our point of discussion today), Yodin Zaku, Byzantine Kitty, Mimosa Nightshade, and recently Plado Emberstorm. This is a good thing as I am getting to know the gameplays with these summoners and may even choose to buy one or two. The not-so-good thing is that I don’t know how to counteract them, at least so far. However, one of my recent experiences has taught me how to tame the Llama. 😊

All the Splinterlanders playing with the Llama or having come across one know that the deadliest issue with the Llama is the last stand. Further, if the monster getting the last stand powerup is also a self-healer, the problem is double trouble. And mostly, players use only this strategy. You will always be coming against the Llama with Kron the Undying. Why? Because Kron is a self-healing card and more or less will be the last one standing in the lineup.

Incidentally, I came across two such Llama matches where I lost big time because the Kron powers up to eighteen health with the help of the Llama. Of course, then there was the golden turn where I beat the Llama and Kron. So, we will see how I did it in a moment. Before that, how about knowing Splinterlands a bit more? After all, we need to know the game where both the Llama and Kron the Undying are available. 😊

What Game is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. *The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning.* It is one of the most generous games that I have seen where cards, potions, Dark Energy Crystals (DEC. Cryptocurrency) are given out every day to thousands of players for just playing and winning daily quests. And there are tournaments that you can play or guilds that you can join.

Just to give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands - read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying few packs worth $20 only.

Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs

And this is just a small number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling it for as high as $6500. This means the game has interested buyers for your cards too. In fact, there is a whole Splinterlands marketplace.

*If this is not enough, then Splinterlands has just launched the governance token SPS, which is being airdropped to all Splinterlands players over the next one year. So, you are not late. Get on with the game and earn SPS today.*

The Rule for the Battle | Humble Khala Leads My Team

Now that we know what Splinterlands is all about let’s get to know Mother Khala and the rule which laid out an exciting battle. It so happened that I got my team working for a health-equalizer battle as per the rule.

Here is the rule:

It was a 28-mana battle with the enrage and health-equalizer rule in play. I went for the Life Splinter as the Life quest was on. So, the obvious choice was Mother Khala as the summoner. Mother Khala would add one health over and above the equalized health of all monsters. That would put me at a tiny advantage over the opponent, I thought. 😊

Let’s get to the battle and the face-off screen.

Getting Ready to Meet The Opponent

And then we were at the face-off screen. Here is what it looked like.

There you go. That was when I came to know that I was against the Scarred Llama Mage (drum rrrrooollll!). And if you remember my point in the earlier section, you would also see Kron the Undying at the very end of the opponent’s lineup. Deadly combination, in my opinion. ☹

We know that Mother Khala adds one health to all friendly monsters, so what does the Llama do? The Llama adds three abilities to all friendly monsters. It adds two health to all friendly monsters and, in doing so, betters the Khala. It also gives all friendly monsters the last-stand ability (the dreaded one) and cleansing for all friendly monsters in the first position. This is a deadly combination of abilities and would make it almost difficult to beat the Llama. Anyway, I said almost, so, time to figure out those minuscule times when you can still beat it. 😊

We will get to see that in the battle, but let’s look at both the lineups before that.

We will start with the opponent’s lineup. Let’s call it the Llama lineup. 😊

Summoner: Scarred Llama Mage | Earth Splinter | Increases the health by two. Gives all friendly monsters last-stand ability. Also, it cleanses all debuffs on the friendly monster in the first position.

Monsters:

Position 1: Biceratops | A melee attacker with an attack value of two. It also comes with a shield of two.

Position 2: Battering Ram | A melee attacker with an attack value of one. It has the opportunity ability.

Position 3: Horny Toad| A melee attacker with an attack value of one. It has the reach-ability. In this game, it was wrongly placed in position three. It should be placed in the second position.

Position 4: Khmer Princess | Magic attacker with an attack value of one.

Position 5: Kron The Undying | The main villain for us. A magic attacker with an attack value of three. It also has self-healing ability.

The last monster alone is enough to prove difficult for my team. Anyway, let’s look at my team.

Summoner: Mother Khala | Life Splinter | Increases the health of all friendly monsters by one.

Monsters:

Position 1: Clay Golem | Melee attacker with an attack value of three. It also takes a reduced attack from magic monsters.

Position 2: Battering Ram | A melee attacker with an attack value of one. It has the opportunity ability.

Position 3: Cave Slugs | Melee attack monster with an attack value of two. It has opportunity ability and hence can attack from any position.

Position 4: Divine Healer | Non-attack monster capable of healing the monster at position 1.

Position 5: Lunakari Mistress | Magic attack monster with an attack value of two.

Position 6: Truthspeaker | Non-attack monster, which gives two shields to each friendly monster at the beginning of the battle.

I somehow felt that the opponent had planned to have all his monsters dead faster so the Kron could come to the first position and have the last stand. That’s how the choice of monsters in the opponent’s lineup seems to be weak. It is not a coincidence but a strategy. Unfortunately, it did not work as we will soon see.

-------------******-----------------

And the Battle Begins

It just took the mid of round two as one of the opponent’s monsters perished. That bought the Battering Ram in front.

The Khmer Princess proved ineffective against the Clay Golem, and the others, barring the Kron, were not attacking the Golem. That worked in its favor so far.

And with that, the Battering Ram was also done with it. It is easy to surmise that with each round, one of the opponent’s monsters in the first position will perish from my monsters’ attack. I guess that was the whole point for the opponent.

-------------******-----------------

The Battle Races to Conclusion

As I mentioned, each monster in the first position perished in each round, as we got the Kron the Undying in the first position by round seven.

And then the big last stand health increase of six happened. So, the Kron was now having the health of 18. That is mighty big. But here’s where the problem is. None of my monsters were dead. So, effectively, an attack value of ten was falling on the Kron. That’s the opponent’s mistake. Instead of relying just on the last stand, if he had had good monsters in the beginning, then at least a few of mine would have been taken off. And that’s what proved costly.

At the exact end of round 16, my monsters disposed off the Kron. It took nearly nine rounds because either the Ram or the Slug or the Golem kept missing their attack on the Kron. As such, it could gain that much more health back. So, that was the reason why the battle went on for so long.

Anyway, I won. 😊

Mother Khala Put the Llama to Sleep

It is not often that you win against the Llama, especially with the Kron in tow. In this case, it appears to be a strategy gaffe by the opponent. All said and done, it won’t happen too often, so take the wins where it is possible.

It is always a good feeling to beat the top-of-the-line legendary summoner with a humble one! So, the win goes to Mother Khala in this case!!! 😊
