The Sultan Bello Hall has been all about the election in the past few weeks. About 3 weeks ago, the ban on electoral activities was lifted. Ever since then, all the candidates have been canvassing for votes. Vote this for this, Vote that for that.
They'll come knocking on your door at midnight, just to seek for our vote; as in who does that? It got to an extent that we don't open the door for them again. Once they come knocking, we'll say "we are busy, say whatever you want to say". The most annoying part is spamming the group chat. They'll send the same message repeatedly, with a lot of stickers.
There are two categories of positions you can go for. The house of assembly and The Executives.
The House of assembly has an open seat of 18 people, they control the affairs of elections in the hall. So, there were twelve contestants for the post, though they weren't against each other. They all walk together room to room to ask us to vote them all.
The Executives is where we have the post of the Hall mayor, Deputy Hall mayor, Social minister, Defense Minister, Health Minister, and Sports Minister.
To cut the long story, the election was finally held on Saturday and Orllybam emerged the winner for the post of the Hall mayor, while S.O.J won the post of the deputy Hall mayor.
Now, what brought about my topic?
In recent weeks PRINCE, the second contestant for the post of the hall mayor has been parading our rooms day and night to seek our vote and for us to canvass for him.
I never knew price since I've been in the hostel, not until the ban on electoral activities was lifted. Several times he came to my room, I told him don't worry, you have my vote. You know when you're are being stressed now and then on the same issue. We had to fool him and make him think he had our votes. Why did I/we do so? Prince is a good man, but who is his opponent?- Orllybam
Orllybam the newly elected hall mayor has been a good man right from day one. Since the first semester, orllybam has been making friends with all of us. He would come to our rooms to play and have educational talks with us. He organized free tutorials, a cryptocurrency enlightening platform, and so on. Why did he do all these? These were part of his strategies for campaigning. He never told us he was going for a post until the ban on electoral activities was lifted. More than 300 students live in our hostel, I tell to you that orllybam knows all our names. He knew he was going to contest for the post of hall mayor this semester, therefore, he did all his assignments right from the beginning.
What happened here is no one's fault, we failed PRINCE but we didn't fail ORLLYBAM. Even the Deputy hall mayor-elect S.O.J wasn't so popular in the hostel. I never knew him until the elections campaigns were on. But there is no day he won't come and plead for our vote, room to room. He won because he didn't get tired. His opponent was relaxed and thought he would win because of his popularity, but they failed him.
PRINCE must have felt betrayed, but that's how it works. It's battles who wins the masses heart wins. This kind of thing happened in our school, arrogant rich contestant loss irrespective of the huge amount of money he spent to win our hearts/win. We still went for the Right candidate
