Comparing is Good but.......

6 19

I bet many of you have heard this advice from a bunch of people: perhaps from your friends, one of the members of your family, from your motivational speaker, saying, "Stop comparing yourself to others 'cause it will only get you no good," "You're only hurting yourself," "it will just frustrate you". And we, since we don't want to feel hurt or be frustrated, we tend to follow their advise.

Indeed, we often feel frustrated everytime we compare ourselves to others. Every time we do, we start to realize the bad things about us: the curves and flaws of our body, our skin complexion, our social status and we began to think that we are no good. So this make us feel hurt and demotivated. So we resort to just minding our own selves as per advise by the persons who care for us.

The moment we stop comparing, it's the time we began to accept who we think we really are. Well, yeah. This is a good thing. But this is not as good as many of us would think because it is also the time we start to be contented of what we have, and forgot that we have so much potentials of improving and becoming better individuals.

The blessing of comparing ourselves to others is the gift of awareness. When we compare, we start to aspire to become someone as good as them or even better. And this give us a lot of opportunities to reflect within ourselves, to determine our strengths and weaknesses, the things we are good and not good at, and it would help us identify the things we need of improving.

But of course, we should take this moderately because anything that is excessive is not good.

Compare yourself to others to improve yourself, but..... moderately.
