It is often said that age is just a number, especially for men. You see film actors, even in their late forties play role of twenty something - but we must not forget that cinema is make-believe world. Now with help of digital editing techniques, even an elaborate make-up is not required, to easily trim of decades from your actual age.

But is age just a number for men - no, I don't agree. As men start aging levels of many vital hormones start decreasing after the age of thirty.

The most important among these hormones are:

  • Testosterone, often called the "Male Hormone", which gives man all its masculine features, starts to decline after the age of 40.

  • Human Growth Hormone, which stimulates growth, cell reproduction, and cell regeneration, starts declining after 20/30 years and a person who is 60 years old will only have 50% of HGH level of that of a 25 year old.

  • Melatonin, a hormone which regulates sleep-wake cycle also starts declining as we age, resulting in difficulty in sleeping, which indirectly affects the levels of HGH, and speeds up the aging process.

  • Also endocrine functions decline with age since hormone receptors become less sensitive, and we are not able to use our hormones efficiently and effectively - this includes thyroid hormone and also insulin.

Thus all these advertisements of health products and supplements are actually farce and there is no cure or panacea for aging. Fountain of youth is just a myth!
