After Coronavirus disease, also known as Covid-19 or SARS-CoV-2, which allegedly originated from Wuhan in China (although virologists from China have refuted the allegations, calling it a conspiracy theory), and caused an unprecedented mayhem and devastation all over the world, the news about a new outbreak of an infectious disease from China is now circulating rapidly in the news media.

Last year, there was a leak at a biopharmaceutical company in northwest China, and now thousands of people are suffering from bacterial disease, known as brucellosis.

The Health Commission of Lanzhou - capital city of Gansu province, said that more than 3,000 people had contracted this disease so far, according to CNN.

Brucellosis, is caused by bacteria known as Brucella, which spreads from animals to humans. As per medical reports, the most common way of transmission of this disease is by consuming raw or unpasteurised dairy products, although sometimes it is possible that the infection can also be transmitted through air or by direct contact with the infected animals.

The main symptoms of brucellosis include fever, joint pain and fatigue. Even though this infection is treatable and can be cured with the help of antibiotics, it may take several weeks or months for the patient to recover completely. And the worst part is that the infection can reoccur, in which case it becomes even difficult to treat since the bacteria can develop resistance to commonly used antibiotics.
