Power poient
Listen to the grief of a student of a public university in Bangladesh outside Dhaka. I edited his writing a little so that no university or department student could be understood.
"Sir, I am a student of department Y of X University. Some time ago one of our sirs took Clast test. Then one day I gave the year final of that course. It was seen that sir gave the question of that Clast test in the year final exam.
The sir who did this is very powerful politically. He takes classes through slides. To tell you the truth sir, his class makes me nauseous. not just me No one's class is that good. However, I cannot accept his questioning. His first job is to accompany the blind VC all the time. I took physics with love. But after entering the university, we are being killed from within. My exam went well. But what to do with this good? Having to memorize."
Few words but the main problem of higher education system of Bangladesh lies here. This is not the first time I have heard such a complaint. I often hear that such and such a teacher has completed the course with 5 out of 30 classes or 13 out of 60 classes. Almost all of these teachers are teachers of political leaders. A teacher who does politics for his own gain has no time for class preparation, no time for creating good quality questions. These teachers understand that the time they spend on flattering students rather than the back of the class is much more beneficial.
Second, taking the entire class on slides is an unfair practice. Taking classes on slides does injustice to the students. Comfort for teachers. It was difficult to make a slide once. But students also feel better in the time spent taking the class on slides with Power Point. But when you look back at the end of the class, it will all seem like magic. Seminars on slides or lectures in front of experts can be given but classroom teaching is generally unfair. Slides must be used. Complex diagrams can be shown on slides without spending time drawing them in class, slides can be used to show class outlines or class flowcharts, or even graphs or diagrams. But the core class must be given in the board. Special subject if Physics or Mathematics.
Already the quality of teachers in our universities is not that good. Among them, just as sick student politics is destroying the quality of student leaders, sick teacher politics is also destroying the quality of teachers. If these teachers did not play politics then they could have focused more on education and research and they could have taught better. No matter how bad quality teachers are appointed, they cannot give their best if they politicize. Is there any accountability for the future of these hundreds of students we are killing. Why sick politics because this is a government institution! Just as other government offices provide services to common people, government or public universities also provide services to students. But what great responsibility is on us! The responsibility to build the future generation. Time to speak out against it.
