Hey With A Difference

Whosoever knows me well, knows I don't like people addressing me or calling my attention with the HEY word. And I don't like doing the same to others either except I want to be rude because to me it's impolite to call someone's attention by telling them Hey

Most people feel it's nothing to do that and some feel it's just like saying Hello but how in the world is Hey and Hello the same? I don't get.🤷🏻‍♀️
When I told someone how rude I think it is to say that to people especially if the receiver is older than the one saying it, the person thought I was just being ridiculous and to him, it really meant nothing to say hey.
He isn't the first person to react that way anyway.

I can even remember of recent when I reacted not so well when someone said hey to me, the person was like;
Why do Nigerians feel that telling someone HEY is an insult?
I was perplexed, and I was like, how does he know if it really isn't what it is or feels like?
I will say it over and over again that its rude to tell people Hey especially if they are older than you.
Forget what or how Nigerians think, forget what other countries like the Americans think or do.
You can say we shouldn't impose our beliefs on others and people's perspectives differ, I am not disputing that fact.

But guess what?, although I don't like it neither do I think it's proper but somehow I am always flabbergasted by this one person who made me not really dislike the word hey like I used to. It's not as if I am a party to it but his way of addressing the word and usage is just so spectacular.

HEY With A Difference

For days now, there is this one, but the handsome-looking young man who has been addressing and calling my attention with the hey word I dislike with all sincerity lol.
At first, I thought its because he didn't know my name, so I thought it was okay.

I walked past him one day and he said hey! to me since he didn't know what I was called, the only way he could get me to turn and atop was for him to say hey.
I looked back to be sure I wasn't the one he was trying to stop but surprisingly I was actually the one so I stopped and he said what he wanted to say and finally asked for my name, which I told him.

But after that day, he did the same thing again when we bumped into each other, again I thought, oh well, maybe he has forgotten my name, and yeah I was right, he did forget my name, I mean I see no reason why he shouldn't have :) unless he had something up his sleeve which he didn't I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

This went on as many times as I can remember until it finally dawned on me that he isn't just saying hey because he might have forgotten my name or something but because maybe that's just how he loves to call my attention.
And for one reason I liked the way he calls my attention with the hey word.
He makes it sound more like a romantic request to get someone's attention than it is a command like most of our people here do.

To be very frank, I honestly think if the majority of people most especially my country people uses the right tone when seeking someone's attention or addressing or getting them with the hey word, I believe it wouldn't really soundrudee like I think it is.

How we present things matter a lot sometimes. The same thing or words we use with people that appear like an insult to them might not be the same for another depending on the manner of approach and usage.
We perceive things differently and we act upon what we know differently too.

We can't always feel the same way, think or reason the same way, act the same way or respond to things the same way.
How we all address matters is different.
But whatever may be the case, we should be mindful and careful how we use most words and let our speeches be of good conduct.

PS: I still don't like the hey word being thrown at me but if it's coming from the dark handsome dude, I wouldn't mind because his way of saying the hey word is quite romantic 🤭😊

Still your baby girl ;)

To my faithful readers and wonderful sponsors, my heart goes out to you guys. Thank you for making my journey here a fun-filled and exciting one. Thanks for trusting and supporting my work too. I pray that God bless you all real good :)

I don't like it too but I tolerate it from strangers because that's how society works............ Slang is an evolving way of talking by the youth............... But if you know my name and you still refer or call me by Hey and I've told you I don't like it then we have a big problem ........... Anyways you are totally right.

You're beginning to fall in love.

It's not like he pronounces the 'hey' differently or with an accent that tingles the head. It's just that we reserve that allowance for those we have soft spots for. And that's human hypocrisy 😝

At some point if he even call you a 'fool' , you will hear and say he meant you're 'full' , and no longer hungry . 😀

God did wonder with affection.

No Elmi. Actually, he usually pronounces it differently with a very soft tone thats why I consider it very different from how others harshly shout the hey.

The accent and manner of address really tingles the head for real

I agree. To be addressed with a 'hey' definitely would make me feel I'm disrespected but when it comes to people I love. Hey is acceptable. It is a sweet word.💛

Does this mean that someone is taking my bae's heart away? I'm just curious...

For me, the major thing is the tone of the user and not the word itself. I call out to people using the word and you find out that they are very much ok with it just like that guy has made it ok for you...

I am just observing, Tell him that the hey word is enough oooh to avoid quarrel😂😂😂

Hey, how are ya?😂 (Sorry I was just trying)

I have to muster my nerves to be able to send that to you thinking that you only like it coming from that dark handsome dude lol! I do not really like it too because it connotes rudeness, but I think it depends on how or when we use the word to someone.

Yeah I also think calling someone “hey” is rude. Unless when I don’t know their name but I usually say “excuse me” rather than just saying “hey” to them.
