This year, the cryptocurrency market has pulled back sharply from last year's highs. Amid a complex macroeconomic landscape, characterized by inflation in major economies and interest rate hikes by central banks, Bitcoin has plummeted more than 65% in price this year from the nearly USD $70,000 it reached in November 2021. The leading cryptocurrency even revisited lows not seen since 2020 when it fell below USD $16,000 in November, a product of the havoc wreaked by the FTX collapse on the entire digital asset industry.
The largest cryptocurrency by market cap has faced resistance at $17,000 over the past few weeks, after last seeing that price on Dec. 16. Today was no exception: Bitcoin dawned this 24th below the expected level and has been hovering around USD $16,800. As of press time, BTC is trading at USD $16,840.
