Jack Dorsey turned down Ethereum and focused on Bitcoin while hiring former Zcash Dev to head a decentralized social network project called Bluesky.
As many people knew that Jack is pro-Bitcoin and uses Ethereum to creates NFTs already. However, he is very cautionary about the future of social media platforms that, at some point, the history may alter depends on the political environment.
The government will shut down the website at some point
Since the government owns the internet, the government may shut down your website. Just look at China. Twitter is worried their website may shut down at one point due to political pressure.
The Bitcoin blockchain can prevent shutting down
Since the creation of Bitcoin from 2009, global governments try to shut it down each time and have not yet succeeded. This unique feature makes Twitter a hope for its future.
Why not Ethereum?
Ethereum has never experienced government sanctions before. Its miners aren’t as powerful as Bitcoin miners. Ethereum is centralized after Ethereum 2.0. Ethereum has a leader figure, its inventor Vitalik Buterin while Bitcoin got no leader but a fictional creator(s) Satoshi Nakamoto.
Crypto-like social media is the future
Each social media company may run their cloud storage or rent from others to run their cloud storage to maintain their operation. The dangerousness is when those cloud services order to stop providing services, online companies may need to find another provider. Solutions for such incidents can reference blockchain as individuals may become nodes to offer online data service support: the more users, the more energy to help a website run.
InterPlanetary File System
If you are familiar with filecoin, you may hear about IPFS. It is a peer-to-peer network for sharing and storing data.
The goal is to connect all global computing devices so that the website will continue running without interruption.
Twitter wants to run forever
The vision of Twitter in the future may become a social media platform that runs forever and records human history.
In conclusion
The last thing Twitter wants to figure out is social media privacy and using blockchain technology to integrate into the platform.
It is exciting but speculated how a public traded company might turn itself into a crypto form in the future. We will see how it happens.
Are you kidding me ... Dorsey ... free speech?
