One of the outstanding attractions of the Argentine province of Misiones is the Jaboti Biosphere Reserve. Its interesting name from the language of local Indian tribes literally translates as "turtle". This national reserve was established in 1995 with the support of UNESCO in order to preserve and enhance the natural resources of the region.
The total area of the Yaboti Biosphere Reserve is 2366.13 sq. km. It includes 119 different zones, among which the Mocona and Emerald Natural Parks are especially popular. Yaboti became famous for its landscape diversity. Most of the territory is occupied by hills covered with wild jungle. Their height in some places reaches more than 200 m.
Among the evergreen jungle, you can also see deep rivers with picturesque waterfalls. The pride of the biosphere reserve is the Mocona waterfall. This is a unique cascade that runs parallel to the course of the Uruguay River. Mocona is the only waterfall in the world that flows into a flooded canyon in the center of the river. The height of this miracle of nature is no more than 20 m.
