An island where cats outnumber people: Tashirojima, Japan
Whether they are adorable and cute or changeable and mischievous, cats are worshiped all over the world. We've all heard of those people who keep a huge number of cats, and we all chuckle at the image of cat ladies, but the obsession with cats in the world knows no boundaries. Someone collects collections of their images or creates museums in their honor, while others proudly exhibit their favorites at exhibitions or show in circuses, in any case, we all adore our furry friends.
The Japanese island of Tashiro has become a tourist attraction only because of its ardent devotion to feline worship.
The cats here freely roam the streets, breed and live for their pleasure, while the much smaller population of people feeds them, cares for them and provides them with veterinary care when they need it.
Dogs are prohibited on the island, where cats are considered lucky charms. For them, special houses in the shape of cats have been built, and sanctuaries dedicated to four-legged pussies can be found all over the island.
