The hypothetical avenue of costumed heroism is undoubtedly dominated by men, until these women came along. Who among these captivating but deadly ladies is the greatest female superhero?

Silk Spectre

Most girls are raised by their moms in such a way that they would grow up to be fine, nice ladies. But in the case of this one, she was brought up by her mother to be a bad-ass, crimebusting woman. Equipped with intense training in hand-to-hand combat and with intimate affiliations with other capable male superheroes, Silk Spectre is someone you must really avoid if you’re a criminal bent on oppression.

First Appearance: 1986

Publisher: DC Comics

Alter ego: Sally Juspeczyk

Jean Grey

If you have the power to read minds, you are indeed truly powerful. But if you can move objects in addition to it, then you can truly be unbeatable. That’s who and what this lady is – the most powerful X-Men member, and one of the most capable in the game of superheroism. She can be the ultimate supervillain as well, when provoked and triggered in a bad way.

First Appearance: 1963

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Alter ego: Jean Grey

Supergirl

Obviously created as a feminine version of the Man of Steel, she was actually tasked as his elder protector. However, when she arrived on Earth, Superman is already a full-grown man and is already the ultimate protector of the planet. Gracing the comic pages for more than 60 years, she is perhaps the reason why the term ‘superheroine’ gets established.

First Appearance: 1951

Alter ego: Kara Danvers

Black Widow

What can a non-superpowered hero do to work effectively with other superpowered ones? The answer- work for both the heroes and the villains, so you can gain classified intel, which you can use to bring a fateful downfall to the evildoers that lurk around. That’s what this female superspy does which makes her peers look up to her in admiration and sometimes, disgust.

First Appearance: 1964

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Alter ego: Natasha Romanova

Storm

Many of us wait for the right weather to get things done. But for this woman, she doesn’t have to because… she can control it. Equipped with such an amazing power and with great skills in leadership, she can be your most trusted facilitator, protector and friend on the battlefield and in any world-saving arena.

First Appearance: 1975

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Alter ego: Ororo Munroe

Hit Girl

She has no superpowers to speak of, so she boasts of her physical and tactical abilities, and curses a lot as she does so. Not so imposing even when in costume because she is, well… a little girl, she always has the element of surprise which makes her enemies spread the word about how much of a terror she is… if they live long enough to tell of it. By the way, Chloe Grace Moretz portrayed her perfectly, don’t you think?

First Appearance: 2008
Publisher: Icon Comics
Alter ego: Mindy McCready

Black Canary

Although she is a relatively unpopular character, she is actually one of the earliest superheroines, and one of the pioneering comic-book heroes, gender aside. Highly trained in the arts of hand-to-hand fighting and of enemy infiltration, she is your excellent fem fatale in the realm of comics and in the entirety of the game of superheroism. How she is depicted in Arrow TV Series seems to be disappointing, but Black Canary in the comics seems to be pretty ravishing for me.

Alter ego: Dinah Drake
First Appearance: 1947
Publisher: DC Comics

Wonder Woman

She is a princess from Themyscira – a place where no males are allowed, which makes it the sole reason why the women in that haven were so adamant in training themselves to be as tough as any man you’d ever come across. Armed with a typical-looking shield and sword, she can be deemed as the definition of one-woman army. In addition to her simple, yet deadly arsenal, she has a powerful lasso that can force the truth out from someone. From childhood to womanhood, Diana was shaped to be the finest female warrior of her tribe, and eventually became the most female superhero anyone has ever heard of.

Alter ego: Dianah Prince
First Appearance: 1941
Publisher: DC Comics

Elektra

Except for maybe the luck of getting resurrected back from the dead, She has no superpowers whatsoever. Armed with a pair of Sais, she is your typical street-level superheroine who is very capable of handling ninja villains, as well as gun-totting criminals from nearly anywhere. What makes her even deadlier is that she is the love interest of Daredevil, a blind superhero who can be thought of as one of the best hand-to-hand fighters in the history of comics.

Alter ego: Elektra Natchios
First Appearance: 1981
Publisher: Marvel Comics

Captain Marvel

Superman and Captain America are 2 of the most popular superheroes of all time, undoubtedly. In the tradition of those big boys in blue, This female superhero became popular too, which can be thought of as a combination of the 2. A pilot by profession, she met villains and aliens while on the gig, which eventually earned her some powers of flight, super-strength, and energy projection. While most heroes only protect Earth, Carol travels nearby galaxies and star systems so she can battle villainy in the widest spectrum possible.

Alter ego: Carol Danvers.
First Appearance: 1968
Publisher: Marvel Comics

Who do you think among them should be declared as number 1?
