Three Global Problems That Never Seem To Go Away

The world has a lot of problems, and some of these are like fungus that’s just so hard to eradicate. Here are three of such problems that in my opinion isn’t going away anytime soon.

Problem 1: Media Piracy

The industry of filmmaking and music recording are two of the biggest industries in the modern world. They make actors, artists, and musicians into legends and etch them as household names. Songwriters, scriptwriters and film directors work incredibly hard to get their artworks released into public viewing.

Apart from this, the studios that produce record albums and movies also provide employment and livelihood for lots of people. It would be unfair for the consumers to just enjoy their outputs without giving appropriate monetary rewards to the creators.

According to a new study from the US Chamber of Commerce's Global Innovation Policy Center, digital piracy costs the US film and TV industry at least an estimated $29.2 billion and as much as $71 billion annually.

An article from the site Statista.com claims that in countries such as Indonesia and Egypt, there are approximately 16 percent of consumers who admits to pirating content more than once a week as of February 2017. It is also stated that in Spain and Canada, over a third of consumers admit to watching pirated content.

By looking at these figures, it is quite clear that a large number of people are actually guilty of the acts of illegal downloading. If we are going to strictly abide by the stipulations of the laws about copyrighting, then people who download music and movies illegally should be punished.

But even with the amazing breakthroughs of internetworking technology, the law enforcement in this aspect is still frustratingly ineffective. Furthermore, how can you ever enforce the necessary fines and penalties to hundreds of thousands of people who download music and movies everyday?

How can you send them to jail should they fail to pay these fines? Such a problem is impossible to address. The only solution would be to have better security techniques in the releasing of audio-visual media. But here’s the simple truth: nobody is ever actually punished for illegally downloading music and movies.

People who do so needs to be punished, but from a realistic standpoint, we just have to accept that it is impossible to accomplish.

Those are the points about piracy that could be acknowledged as the reasons why it’s not going away yet.

Problem 2 : Toxicants Absorption

Here are the most common ways by which toxicants can enter the body:

1. Inhaling – this is where smokers are champions. It can be proven statistically that they provide the greatest number of lung cancer patients all over the world. By habitually puffing a stick of nicotine-filled cigarettes, smokers directly usher a highly toxic barrage of smoke into their lungs which puts them at risk from a variety of lung diseases, the worse of which is cancer.

Even if you never smoked in your entire life, you can never be totally free from breathing in toxic gases. By getting to work and getting back home every day, you are exposing yourself to the dangers that pollution gives. It seems clear that as long as those lungs of yours continue to do their thing, harmful gases are always lurking to hunt you simply because you are alive.

2. Food intake – Though eating is a primary necessity to keep us alive, it can also aid in the ingestion of toxic elements into the body. Most, if not all processed foods today are laced with intoxicants one way or another.

Many experts insist fresh fruits and vegetables are the ultimate keys to a very safe diet. However, some of these “green foods” could have been grown and cultured in a highly chemically-oriented manner thus putting the consumers in a still relatively dangerous situation.

3. Erroneous medical prescription – For all their wisdom and brilliance, even doctors could make mistakes. Some physicians could prescribe the wrong set of medicines to a trusting patient which in effect, make the latter suffer even more. Many such cases could even lead to death – the scariest outcome of all.

Although such a fateful outcome may sometimes be too far-fetched, it is highly possible that taking the wrong medicine to combat a certain illness could make unwanted chemicals get into the body, creating a surge of destruction that even the best doctors could not fight anymore.

Because of the prevalence the above-mentioned acts, we can somehow discern that the absorption of toxicants is also a problem that won’t be leaving us yet.

Problem 3 : Waste Disposal

Since people all over the world consume stuff of all kinds endlessly, waste disposal seems like a never-ending problem societies tackle each and everyday. Be it paper, vegetable peelings, plastic or toxic chemicals, the waste matter that humans constantly unleash into the world can be viewed as an onslaught of villainous beings that antagonize our environment.

If only this problem can be simply perceived as an entity that we can face head on and engage in direct combat, defeating it would be very easy. Unfortunately, this enemy can’t be really viewed as such, for it is actually a manifestation of the dark side that lurks within the hearts of every man, woman and child.

The fight is not really about facing a tangible villain. Rather, it is about instilling a kind transformation in everyone’s mindset. Why this problem occurs and why it worsens can be traced back to one characteristic that most people have in themselves – indiscipline.

This is evident in the common scenario of people eating commercial food packs in streets, parks, and similar public areas. They just tear up, gobble, and swallow down; not thinking about the waste packaging that they throw to the ground or be carried by the passing wind.

This is a disturbing attitude, but one so common that nobody thinks about removing it from their list of habitual delinquencies. But with a problem this rampant, can it ever be truly solved? Of course it can be. The primary solution would be for the government and social leaders to constantly conduct awareness symposiums or information drills about the devastating effects of unmanaged waste in a community.

The secondary remedy would be for the people that comprise the community to cooperate and perform their minute roles. If this is done in an ever-increasing manner, the problem of waste disposal would be certainly neutralized, if not totally eradicated.

If you’ve read this thoroughly, maybe it’s time for you and me to take action.
