Working as direct aides of doctors, nurses are ever-present in hospitals and clinics, presenting themselves the direct interface between patients and doctors. Their importance can’t certainly be disputed. Especially in the occurrence of global pandemics like the one we’re experiencing, their roles are one of the most crucial ones we can think of.

Because attending physicians can’t always be present to communicate directly with the patients, nurses will have to be there, taking care of those who are sick and attend to their physical needs and sometimes, emotional needs as well. But nurses, even the best and most brilliant of them occasionally suffer maltreatment from patients, as well as from their superiors.

Sometimes, they are marginalized because of their socio-cultural upbringing and educational background. Some of them are questioned about how loyal they can be with the organization they choose to work for. Such a problem oftentimes does more harm than good. Not only to the nurses themselves, but also to the organizations they’re working for.

There are also cases in which their educational attainment and previous work credentials are put in question, as if it is relevant to their commitment. Some doctors, hospital administrators, and even patients often think that it is a vital element to a nurse's work.

But a study conducted stated in Iran declares that from a statistical standpoint, there was no direct correlation between professional competency and organizational commitment. As it turns out, those nurses who are treated well, often by their employees and co-workers give out the best services, regardless of where they graduated and where they originated from.

To prevent such a problem from becoming a huge issue in healthcare facilities, the following steps would be helpful:

1. Determining the track record of the nurse – Instead of focusing on where the employee came from or where he/she graduated from, his/her past performances should be focused on instead. Loyalty is something that no teacher can ever teach, and no school can ever design to be learned for.

2. Evaluating the nurse’s emotional intelligence – This is about figuring out the nurse’s possible psychological manifestations as he/she performs the job. Hospitals and healthcare facilities are mainly about caring and nurturing. And if a nurse is highly capable of it, that should be the yardstick for measuring job excellence.

We can now grasp the idea that the jobs of nurses must be regarded with high importance. They must be treated with the same respect one must give to doctors and high-ranking healthcare personnel.

Important Nursing-Related Technician Jobs

In doing the following jobs, you don’t need to own a 4-year degree, but you will be performing life-saving jobs that can be viewed as something that is equal to their more educated peers. Truly, these technical jobs can be declared as truly heroic.

Dietetic Technician

An employee with this job may work independently or in tandem with other people in their trade because giving health advisories is a really serious task. They provide food management and nutritional care services under the supervision of a registered dietitian.

A dietetic technician may also give assistance in screening patients, recording diet histories, choosing menu choices, and educating patients about the best eating practices. Because they deal with food knowledge most of the time, they may work in hot, congested kitchens and are on their feet for much of their working hours. As a majority of the population are becoming more health-conscious, dietetic technicians are much highly needed more than ever.

Dialysis Technician

Chronic kidney disease is one of the deadliest ailments that kill people in a gradual process. Due to the increasing bad habit that people acquire in eating and drinking, the need for dialysis technicians increases a lot as well. Also known in other terms like nephrology, or renal dialysis, a person employed in this field treat people with chronic renal failure.

They conduct extensive “kidney cleanup” by filtering a patient’s blood with a dialysis machine to remove impurities. Such a service may be performed in hospitals, out-patient facilities, or home-based dialysis programs. Because of this system, dialysis technicians are encouraged to develop excellent bedside manners too, much like certified doctors.

Cardiovascular Technician

Unlike most technicians in hospitals, employees in this field spend a lot of time walking and standing. Those working in certain labs may face stressful working conditions because they are in close contact with patients with serious heart ailments, which may require them to work during weekends and even on their rest days.

In catheterization labs where they are on-demand, they may work long hours or in late evenings. Most of them are trained on the job in health care fields with the partnership of nursing aides. They also often act as assistants to physicians, who may be great at what they do, but can never perform well, without the designated cardio-techs on their sides.

Biomedical Technician

Employed in a variety of places from offices of clinic physicians to hospitals, BioMed technicians are required to be adept in taking safety precautions because they are tasked with working on electronic medical equipment, which may either save lives or bring them to an abrupt end. In doing so, they are meant to install, maintain, and repair various types of medical diagnostic treatment equipment.

These include patient monitors, medical imaging equipment, and x-rays. Most of the people on this job are on call 24 hours a day, where they are required to keep detailed records of all maintenance and repair that they undergo, for every piece of equipment that they are issued with.

Medical Registry Technician

Anyone who wants to be a medical registry technician needs to accept the fact that he needs to be interrogated extensively as he will be scrutinized by third-party payers, regulators, courts, and consumers. Technicians in this field are tasked to organize and evaluate medical records for completeness and accuracy. In addition, they must ensure that medical charts are complete and all forms are properly identified, coded, and signed.

In hospitals where many health information departments operate 24-7, registry technicians may work both day and night shifts. Their jobs highly require concentration and attention to detail thus, they need to guard themselves against eyestrain and severe muscle pains.

No matter where you’re working as a health-care employee, you should be extremely proud of the service you’re giving as it is very vital to what this world really needs, especially in perilous times like this.
