Although it is very difficult, not to mention likely impossible to come up with the perfect results, it is very possible to attain something that’s very close to perfection. And to bring our dieting methods as near to being perfect as possible, we have to motivate ourselves into attaining the perfect mindset. This is the most important step to achieving dieting success. Sadly, however, this is often the most overlooked part.
So how do you condition yourself into being an efficient dieter? The first move to take would be to ask yourself, “Why do I need to do this?” and “For whom am I doing this?” We can have an endless list of answers.
If those reasons are not strong enough, you can always come up with other stronger reasons, ones that will push you into recognizing the real importance of your planned achievement. Whatever they may be, all you have to think about is how they can motivate you even further, and how to make you religiously do the necessary steps to achieve your dieting goal.
It is impossible to make or even define the meaning of “perfect mindset” but we have to be as close to it as we can. It is the best and only way to take your first step to a smooth execution of a successful dieting plan.
Understanding your body’s genetics
Here’s why most dieters fail: because they just choose a certain meal plan or exercise regimen that “they think works for them.” Just because they see a certain person becoming a real-life example of “chubby to sexy” or from “lean-to beefy”, all they need to do is mimic the actions of those people, and they are already on the path to health success, so they believe.
There is nothing wrong with such a notion. It is in fact, a definitive way of pushing yourself to set your plans into motion. But here’s the plain and simple truth, there is no such thing as a “one size fits all” kind of dieting program. Each person is different, and each and every one of us has varying body-types. What works for Joan may work for Anna as well, but may not work for Chloe at all.
Whether your naturally skinny like Joan, or have been chubby like Anna for years already, or maybe you are already as brawny as someone named Chloe, your chosen dieting/workout program could not be the best for you. To really figure out what works for you, knowing your body type is another crucial step you have to take.
Human body types are basically categorized into 3:
Ectomorph
Individuals with this body type are easily recognizable as the skinny types of people. They are the ones you probably see in your social circle as people who eat, like a horse or are capable of eating an entire horse for themselves, yet still look like the most elite ramp models on TV. Knowing this, we might say that ectomorphs are really “the blessed ones” because they can eat almost anything in any quantity they desire, and get away with it.
Some would often joke about these people as former over-eaters but have attained some kind of infernal spell that deprived them of the physical bulk they desire – they will overeat all they want, but they are still thin and lanky because allegedly, they are cursed by the gods of nutrition.
We may find that belief amusing, but that’s hardly the case. Why such people are not getting fat like their fellows is mainly due to their super-fast metabolism. While eating vast amounts of calories, their high metabolic rates work like super-charged milling engines breaking down the food that they ingest even in their sleep.
In effect, their bodies don’t have the capability of harboring enough fat. It’s the reason why they are very thin in almost all the years of their lives. If you are someone who belongs to this category, here’s good news for you: Dieting shouldn’t be much of a problem for you.
However, attaining an attractive, nice-looking, athletic shape might be a bit hard for you, as gaining lean muscle mass is a real struggle for ectomorphs. The upside to this though is when you do get fat a bit, it will be much easier for you to lose it.
Mesomorph
People with this body-type are those who have the ideal bone-to-muscle ratio. In other words, they are the “truly gifted” ones. Men who are blessed with this kind physique will only need to put a little effort into working out but could look like Arnold Schwarzenegger in just a few weeks. Women like this would be easily classified as the “voluptuous ones,” – females that would easily qualify as playboy models without trying really hard.
As a dieter, mesomorphs belong to the “medium-rate metabolizers.” Since they are not as fast in terms of food digestion as ectomorphs, they could end up really overweight if they eat the way those lanky ones do. Being a mesomorph gives you the upside of being in good-form most of the time, but you have to watch out for possible weight gains if you don’t maintain the balance of eating and sufficient physical activities.
Endomorph
From what you may have guessed, people in this category can be classified as those who are fat most of their lives. They eat the same quantity of the food as most people of their supposed ideal size, but they have typically large bodies, larger than their bone structure should really allow them to have.
Technically, they are the exact antithesis of the ectomorphs. They eat like sluggish worms and turtles, but they are still chubbier than others near them. Now, here’s the truth that you might greatly dislike if you belong to this body-type category: dieting will be much more difficult for you, especially if your training next to a mesomorph. What’s worse is being close to an ectomorph during your training drills – it will be difficult not comparing yourself to their progress.
Being an endomorph truly has the greatest hardships with dieting. But this is not to discourage you, it’s just a means of letting you accept your body the way you should. It is said that “Knowing your enemy is strength.”
So if you don’t recognize the nature and realities of your own body, which is undoubtedly the most difficult enemy to overcome in becoming a successful dieter, you will easily fail with your endeavors. To avoid such failure, you have to consider spending quality time learning about your body type, so you can respond accordingly to it.
Yes, I'm the last type, maybe hahahaha. Thank you for sharing new knowledge. The biggest difficulty for me is diet and exercise.
