The good thing about movie visuals today is that they can now truly bring our favorite comicbook characters come to life on the silverscreen. But truth to be told, nothing makes a superhero truly admirable onscreen than the actor that portrays such a character. Who do you think among the following should be declared as the ultimate superhero actor?
10. Edward Norton/Hulk
Although he was ejected from his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe having been replaced by Mark Rufallo, there is no doubt that it was Edward Norton who popularized the Hulk in the movies.
Eric Bana who portrayed the emerald giant in the 2003 version was impressive but it didn't reach into the heights the way Edward did. Many fans believed that Mark Rufallo was a better Hulk, but he obviously wouldn't be there if not for Mr. Norton.
9. Patrick Stewart/Professor X
When Bryan Singer wrote the X-Men screenplay, his first and only choice for the role of Professor X was Patrick Stewart. Being practically hairless for most of his career, Patrick was indeed the perfect choice for the X-men's mentor, though it's not the only reason of course.
He has the mild-mannered, calm demeanor that Charles Xavier is supposed to portray. James McAvoy is now taking over the mantle, but critics and fans alike are still undecided if the younger Charles is really doing justice to the role.
8. Bruce Lee/Kato
If gracefulness and toughness in fighting is the topic, who can ever top the legendary Bruce Lee? Appearing in Hollywood as “The Little Man from Asia,” Bruce got his first major acting gig as Kato, the sidekick of the masked vigilante called “The Geen Hornet.”
After appearing on a TV show of the same name in 1966, Mr. Lee has since appeared in his own movies which made him a legend in his own right and became the father of martial arts within pop culture... and even outside of it.
7. Charlie Cox/Daredevil
Lawyer by day, horned vigilante by night, that's what Matthew Murdock is, a.k.a. Daredevil. Often referred to as “The Devil of Hell's Kitchen,” Daredevil was first portrayed on film by Ben Affleck in 2003.
But when the character was re-invented by Netflix, it truly brought the superhero tv-series genre into a much higher level that it can already be categorized as some sort of a "courtroom drama" instead of just being a plain comic-book adaptation. Charlie Cox played all the 3 roles perfectly: as a lawyer, as a blind guy, and as street-level superhero.
6. Chris Evans/Captain America
His first superhero gig was when he played Johnny Storm a.k.a. Human Torch in Fantastic Four(2005) He didn't receive much fame then although he played another superpowered character in Push(2009).
But when he played Marvel's iconic hero with the star-spangled motif, Chris Evans became a worldwide superstar. As the leader of the Avengers on screen, Chris might just as well be the leader of real actors who represent as real heroes in the real world as he is known to be a very kindhearted person.
5. Robert Downey Jr./Iron Man
We could say that since Iron Man has never been portrayed in live-action movies before, it could be the reason why Robert Downey Jr. found it so easy to own the role since we've got nobody to compare him with in his performance.
This can't be exactly true however since most critics and fans alike declare that he is perfect as Tony Stark. He is already half a century old, but Robert was able go get contracted to do more avengers films even in his "not-too young anymore" status. This makes it evident that filmakers still believe that he is very capable of delivering superb heroics in a far better way than his younger co-stars.
4. Wesley Snipes/Blade
Like the Iron Man character, blade was played by a single actor on film and it is none other than Wesley Snipes. A real martial-arts practitioner off-screen, Wesley completely did justice to the vampire anti-hero as he slashes and dices vampire bad-asses in every scene.
A live-action series was made to appear on TV last 2006, but it was canceled because the fans, as well as the producers alike expected it to be on the level of greatness in a way that only Wesley Snipes can deliver.
3. Stephen Amell/Arrow
As a supporting character in Smallville, the Green Arrow character lacked depth and intensity though it appealed to some fans during the show's run. However, when it was reinvented in 2012 by Greg Berlanti, it became a massive success on Prime-time TV.
Starring Stephen Amell in the lead role, the show became a smash hit especially to teens and young adult comic fans. They felt the actor really is Oliver Queen personified because he was dubbed “The actor who actually trains like a real superhero.”
2. Christian Bale/Batman
Among all the comic book characters, no other hero has ever had the greatest success in various forms of media other than Batman. Although many actors already portrayed Batman in film, TV and radio, no other actor has ever given a more compelling portrayal than Christian Bale.
Formerly a child commercial model and actor, he was first brought into the worldwide spotlight when he starred as Jamie Graham in Empire of The Sun(1987), Directed by Steven Spielberg. Batman is still the ultimate revenue-maker of Warner Bros Films and we have Mr. Bale to thank for that.
1 . Christopher Reeve/Superman
We had Tom Welling, Dean Cain, Henry Cavill and even George Reeves before him. These guys are fairly cool and okay to play the role of the Man of Steel. But throughout the ages, the original Superman movie is still the holy grail of all the superhero movies that we enjoy so much today.
No comicbook movie director of this generation would ever dare to say that he does not look into the 1978 version of Superman as an inspiration. Christopher Reeve is the lead star of the first truly definitive superhero movie– this makes him the undisputed number one on this list, and on any superhero list ever.
