Overview:
This content was my research paper when I was in my Senior High days. I proposed this research paper on August 2017. This paper aims to know if where will the students learn more, in the traditional way of learning or the modern way?
Introduction
Change begets change. Modernization reigns nowadays: every hour, every minute, and every second. Essentially, humans use new inventions to communicate and make works easier and faster. Thus, humans can see the logic of knowing its upshot to us.
Technology indeed helped people a lot especially, the students. Through technology, students can learn as fast as one click. On the other hand, humans tend to neglect what we used to have before. Northrop Frye, a Canadian educator and literary critic, once said, “The most technologically efficient machine that man has ever invented is the book”. In Northrop Frye’s view, no matter what or how many inventions came technologically, man cannot deny the fact that it was still the book, after all, which man can used as a medium of learning though technologically advancements and was on the hand now. Moreover, traditional ways can be performed as well.
Traditional ways, as for now, are being forgotten because of numerous creations and innovations that affect the intellectual aspect of human. Technologically speaking, we used to rely more on the information given by the internet, and not even consider searching up on books at library. Humans was influenced so much that they tend to forget the disadvantages it can bring to them.
In Grade 12- STEM students of Marcial O. Rañola Memorial School, most students rely on technologies. This was the reason why the researcher feel that there is a need to conduct study on the effectiveness of using traditional way of learning rather than of that technology. Moreover, the students who will serve as the respondents are expected to be imbued with the importance of using traditional ways of learning.
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of exposing Grade 12- STEM Students of MORMS in the traditional way of learning using books and other learning competencies. Specifically, it will seek answers to the following questions:
1. What are the profiles of the Grade 12-STEM students of MORMS in terms of:
A. Age
B. Gender
C. Study Habits
2. What are the traditional ways of learning can the Grade 12- STEM students use in studying instead of using technologies?
A. Reading books in Library
B. Reading daily newspaper
C. Group Study
D. Reading literature books
Hypothesis
There is an effect to the students after exposing to traditional way of learning.
Scope and Limitation
This study dealt with the effectiveness of using traditional way of learning in the Grade 12-STEM students. The respondents were all Grade 12-STEM students. It determined traditional way of learning especially during classes, in doing home works and projects and reviewing notes that was always encountered by the students.
This study is limited only to Grade 12-STEM students of MORMS, and it excludes other areas of learning in order to hone the capabilities of the students, exercises are being proposed by the researcher.
Significance of the Study
This study is highly significant and beneficial to the following:
Community: This study will help improve the quality of life in the community as with the socialization aspect. This can also provide necessary information of how traditional ways are more beneficial than of any other methods.
Curriculum Makers: This study will help the Curriculum makers to be knowledgeable and this will benefit them in teaching their future students. This will serve as a reliable and valid source of reference for future study because effective way of learning is applied.
School Administration: This study will help the School Administrators to be informed of what is needed by the teachers to ensure that the students will be engaged in the effectiveness of using traditional ways of learning.
Teacher: This study will help the teachers communicate well with their students because interaction is present.
Students: This study will help the students to exercise and develop their learning skills, awaken and increase their awareness and knowledge and bring back the essence of using traditional way of learning.
Future Researchers: This study will help the future researchers to have a guide in doing their research. Their research will be easier since they have already a background in what they are going to do.
