OVERVIEW OF THE PROJECT
The Municipality of Guinobatan is a 1st class municipality, partially Urban, and the 3rd Voting District in the province of Albay, Philippines. It is located within the Region V particularly in the southern tip of the island of Luzon also called as Bicol Region. The territory of Guinobatan is bordered by a number of municipalities namely Camalig (on the east), Jovellar (on the South), Pio-Duran (on the South-West), and Ligao (on the North-West). On the Northeast, the town shares with Malilipot, Santo Domingo, Daraga, Tabaco and Legazpi, a common point in the crater of Mayon Volcano. Guinobatan is politically subdivided into 44 barangays.
Guinobatan is the birthplace of General Simeon Ola, the last general who surrenders to the Americans after the Philippine American War. To honor the general, the municipal government formally opened Museo de Guinobatan, which showcases Ola’s belongings, artifacts and documents. Paintings and illustrations about the American occupation and devastating war events that happened in this town are among those displayed inside the museum.
The center of Guinobatan is the Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. Guinobateños are known for their religious activities in order to honor their patrons. With this, we are tasked to conduct a research about the religious beliefs of Guinobateños. The objective of this study is to gather data about the religious activities of Guinobateños outside and inside their home. The study will be conducted in the different places in Guinobatan particularly in churches and chapel. There will also be interviews of some people regarding their activities inside their home. The collected data will be compiled and will serve as a reference of the students who visits the Museo de Guinobatan.
Good Evening. FYI, we conducted this project last 2018. I still remembered. We perform this project during those times when the Mayon Volcano erupted, way back January 2018. It was a memorable 2-week immersion for us.
