Hello everyone! Its me again. Hehehe. Its been a days of inactive here. Anyway, let's begin this one. Actually, I want to share some knowledge I had about counseling or about Applied Social Science..Sharing is caring. Divahhh? And I think some of you needs to undergo counseling.
Have you undergo counseling or experienced that before? A self therapy from counselors?
But first, what is counseling?
Counseling is designed to facilitate student achievements, improve student behavior and attendance, and help students develop socially...It is a “learning process in which individuals learn about themselves and their interpersonal relationships, and enact behaviors that advance their personal development” (Schertzer and Stone 1981, 168).
So, basically, from the descriptions mentioned, it is clear that counselling is a personal relationship between the counsellor and the client. And remember mga ka ses that all of us can be a client. The first important characteristics of a counselling relationship is being egalitarian in nature. It means that power between counsellor and clients should be consciously shared by the two parties. Of course, because before anything else, it needs to make or build a good relationship before starting the counseling process. The second characteristics of the counselling relationship is that it is built on trust and confidentiality. We place their trust on the counsellors and get to share personal information about ourselves that we are comfortable sharing with one another.
When I was in Junior High School. One of our school guidance counselor gives us one by one counseling in the guidance office. That was my first time to undergo counseling because that time, each one of us need to undergo counseling as a school requirement. So, I was afraid that time to open up with someone and answer several questions. Hahaha...
But, when the first time that I enter in guidance office, ma’am Reshney approach me in a very comfortable way. She is so kind and very approachable and when you talk to them, you can feel comfortable and safe. So, during the counseling process of ma’am Reshney, she asked me questions and then she gave me something (a box). A box that was filled with questions that is related about family problem. So, I do pick one and answer the question and so on. After answering it, we talk and she gave advices to me about relationship of family. As far as I remember every homeroom class, we also did that.
You know? Counseling is a helpful process for all the students and I’d like the process of our school in which they give every student a one by one counseling in the office. Because, sometimes, students are too shy to go in the guidance office and talk with the counselor about their problems or open up.
It’s a very nice experienced to undergo one by one counseling because, it can really help us to overcome the problems we’ve encountered. Our school offers a lot of topic for a group counseling in AVR-2 which is about Gender Awareness, HIV, Sex, Career and so on that helps a lot of students. And for me, the Applied Social Science addresses different problems in our society especially, the concerns of individuals. And the function of Applied Social Science in counseling is to help individuals to overcome and let the client decide what they need to do to solve the problem with the guidance of counselors.
For additional information, if you want to undergo counseling to the counselors in a specific settings. It includes a sequence of steps or actions which geared towards a particular end. Bale, step by step process siya until we can decide what to do. Dahil ang mga counselors is just our guide to let us decide on our own.
These various activities that the counselors given to us can lead us to a journey of self-exploration, self-discovery, and even bahavior and attitude changes, in some cases. During the sessions, we can learn more about ourselves, the people around us, and our respective environments.
So, if you need counseling about family, premarital, career choices, emotional and other concerns you have. Please, try to contact the nearest counselors in your area to help you and assist you.
Because, the knowledge and awareness that we gain from the sessions would help us make informed choices.
Thank you for reading and let me know if you experience counseling with the counselors. :)
