There's Light

Their helicopter cruised the air.

Look dear, she cheered, that is the perfect island. Out of the window, all he saw was a bunch of rocks, the left cliffs of Dover.

Honeybee, can't you see this isn't the place where we can land?

He hoped she would believe what he'd just made up. She did not. She started at him with those eyes that could shoot fire any minute.

Land, she yelled.

Her command was deafening.

Put the Lady down, I've had enough of the yacht, sailing, the waiting for that stupid dove to return. If it's not resting and drowned it might have been eaten by the last predator in this flood of, I mean the endless ocean.

I wish I had a time machine and could travel back in time. I would have never prayed for a wife and stayed home with Mom and Dad. I'm so tired of the never-ending talks. Out of the blue, a forgotten tune played through his head and he couldn't help smiling. Those had been the good days. How come he'd never recognized them back then?

Frank, Annie yelled, look the door is open. The house looks cool, there's a kitchen, a bathroom, and even a swimming pool.

She sounded enthusiastic for the first in a long time. All he could think of was the bears on the road if the owner showed up. The fact the cliff with the lighthouse was intact meant the disaster hadn't stretched its arms to the top. He felt annoyed about her naming each item she found and thought: Stop it Ann we've it all on the yacht.

Let's go and climb the lighthouse, she suggested, not waiting for his answer.

My God, would she ever stop?

He ran after her, it was hard be he did as she pulled the door open. It nearly hit into his face.

Ann, dear those stairs are not so stable, you might fall. What would I do without a woman like you?

For a second she stood still it was as if she thought about an answer but if so her reply wasn't what he wanted to hear: drop dead Frank, that's what everyone has done so far and what you will do eventually too. Leave me alone, I'm not your slave anymore.

As the dove arrived it brought hope, she fell and it was finally peace.
