It's a sign given so you know something is (seriously) wrong.
A huge problem of pain is how to handle it. There are so many pains - mental and physical - and with a part, we have to live because there's no cure and painkillers hardly or don't help.
It's not easy to live with pain.
A fact is what is painful to one is not painful to others. We can not feel someone else's pain. How intense pain is felt all depends on the personal pain threshold (how fast you feel pain) and pain tolerance (how much pain you can endure). Some people do great if it comes to handling pain. You hardly know they are in pain which doesn't mean the pain doesn't exist.
How to handle pain?
You can try to ignore it, look for some distraction (as long as you are busy you are focused on something else), do something to increase the level of endorphins or block the receptors which sent the pain-signal to your brains.
Ways to fight pain?
Coffee
Or actually, caffeine does the trick. Experiments were done with sportmen who awaited a heavy training. It turned out that those who drank coffee before the training started and those who took two tablets with caffeine experienced less pain than those who did not.
Scientists believe caffeine blocks the receptors which send pain. If this works for tea and coca cola as well is not tested but if it's the caffeine it should be.
Shout it out!
Scolding, shouting, getting really mad and even cursing turns out to be helpful if it comes to killing pain. It was the Keele University in England who tested it. The scientists believe this aggressive behavior activates the fight/flight response. Good for a higher heartbeat which means an increased level of pain tolerance.
Watching drama
It's known we feel better if someone else feels bad, has a miserable life we can shed tears about. Watching some drama on tv/in a movie, something that makes really emotional is the answer to pain. Emotions trigger endorphins.
Note: watching drama only helps if one gets emotional and even better if watched together.
Dancing.
Especially active dancers and synchronized dancing (with others!) do the trick. Activity is good for an increased level of endorphins so does the doing it together.
Happy thoughts.
If you focus on happy thoughts it's easier to endure pain. Start your day dream in the dentists chair or if your toe nail is ripped off and the pain won't kill you.
Endorphines and caffeine can be helpful to endure the pain. All tests are done by Universities in the UK and Germany. In most cases is tried to increase the pain tolerance before the pain started. For sure this will not help with each pain and for everyone but (for the smaller) pains it's worth trying.
We just have to distract ourself to avoid pain! Whenever I experience it, I serve myself with extra care..with favourite food..cartoons.And I forget other things.
