Do you suspect anyone?

Detectives... In films (series) they are totally different from those in real life. Miss Marple for example. An elderly lady who never left the village she lived in. Some might say she is noisy and check-outs everything but no matter what you think of her you better beware. She has all the time to observe, observe people and her mind is always active. According to Agatha Christie Miss Marple is based on her grandmother. The first Miss Marples I saw were broadcasted in black and white.

Another noisy lady is Jessica Fletcher. She's a writer and writing is a good excuse for figuring out how it happened or might happen. Jessica's way of figuring it out you can see if you watch 'Murder she wrote' a tv series that ran for a long time and might still be popular. You have to like her to keep watching. Jessica is not my favourite detective by the way and neither is Columbo. I cannot help it but at the time I saw him for the first time he looked like a dirty, old man to me and today he still is. Might be his way of thinking is special in a certain way but personally, I can not get over his dirty look (hair, coat and who knows what more of his appearance influenced my opinion as a child).

Totally the opposite of Columbo is Dr Mark Sloan, a medical doctor. It's questionable what Mark (Dick van Dyke) likes more. Curing patients or catching murderers but the truth is he's a big help to his son who is the real murder detective and he keeps everyone busy. Since Mark studied and a doctor we assume he observes people and likes to solve puzzles if it comes to health issues or in his case... murder. What Mark has in common with Miss Marple and Jessica Fletcher is curiosity. It doesn't kill them but isn't always attractive either. Dr Sloan reminds me of an old lady at times might be that's the reason this series was broadcasted around 4 p.m.

Another doctor solving more than health issues only is Dr House. He isn't really a detective but he figures out a lot and lets his 'crew' nose around without any shame. Dr House seems to live by the same rules as Miss Marple and so does Mr Monk. "Everybody lies, everyone has something to hide which means... You can expect everyone and everything".

And what to think about Adrian Monk? He was a homicide detective and continues doing it as a private detective working for the police department. Adrian is special, has more phobias than anyone can imagine but solves cases no one can and therefore he is needed and liked.

A detective who reminds me of Adrian (Adrian is my favourite) is Sorjonen. Sorjonen is a Finnish detective series on Netflix and just like Monk he is special. The English spoken in this series sounds not as great as in BBC crime series like 'Midsomer Murders' and 'the inspector Lynley' but he has a great memory and is able to figure out what really happened long before anyone has a clue (yet).

"It's a gift and a curse" would Adrian Monk say and he's right. It's astonishing a man like Sorjonen can work for the special department of crime, is able to travel and solves crimes if he has such a hard time with changes but he does with or without the help of the voices in his head and those who passed away. Like Monk Sorjonen talks to his deceased wife and both detectives show a certain behaviour if they 'think', figure it out, have a father who couldn't accept them and deal with a problem they haven't solved yet.
