Computers, concerts & children

The world changed long before...

Computers became history to me. I cannot say I miss having one. A computer needs a lot of space which I don't have and I never liked all the dust and wires, wires and cables that easily get dirty and all that is dirty needs to be cleaned. What I dislike about computers too is they get easily broken, are already dated at the moment you buy them and access to the internet is for some reason harder than it is with a smartphone. Besides you cannot sit or lay in your bed with a personal computer either so I stick to my phone. By now it's easier this way and if my eyes are getting worse I can still see my phone but not the screen of a computer.

I read there's a lack of laptops these days, especially if it comes to laptops with a price of 700 euros. It's hard to believe after all those years a laptop and phone are that expensive. Indeed I do find both expensive especially if you see what is inside. Ever opened your laptop and saw the inside? Smartphones do not have the best parts either. It's all cheap and although those parts are cheap plastic the prices increase.

Concerts and festivals. They (the newspaper) say the children miss it. Those at the age of 16-23 are meant by "children" and they pay the bill after years of studying because they cannot go out.
A 16-year-old studied for years? Sixteen means you are in high school and have two more years to go till... you go to university something most children do not. The largest group leaves school earlier and what they do has nothing to do with studying, visiting the school or having a job. They stay in bed till afternoon, hang around at certain places and threaten people some even kill their parents because they are not in the mood to let the dog out. Those sixteen-year-old children who are not are busy because homeschooling goes on and soon they have their exam and other tests.

Let's be clear: if you are 18 you are an adult. Everyone 18+ years old should study and if that is not the case it's working. Being an adult means there's no time for fun but it's time to take responsibility. It's no longer your parent's job to help you out and you shouldn't count on them. Once your working day is over and you did the house chores you have time to meet friends and you might have time and money to go out. If not you stay home, you might feel tired and you sit on the sofa watch tv, are on social media and go to bed. That's what adult life looks like.

I wish so-called specialists stop saying "children" if they mean people in the age of 18+. It's not eighteen years and older paying the highest bill. They do not pay more than anyone else not more than their ancestors. The forefathers started working at the age of 11-12 years old. They worked hard from dawn till dusk and there was no time to go to school, to visit the cinema or concerts and if there was they couldn't afford those crazy prices asked.

The world changed long before a coronavirus brought Covid-19. Children no longer care about playing outside, the cinemas were close to a bankruptcy decennial ago and so are Zoos. Children, the young ones, and adults live inside. They live a life behind a screen: television, gaming, computer and smartphone. They have no time to stay close with others, they are not interested in connecting and if they prefer to do it online. The past 16 months proved they didn't connect, they didn't come closer to anyone.

The "need" and loneliness elderly feel is worth no less because they are old and already felt miserable before the lockdown, lonesome and neglected for many years.
Those young ones the "specialist" feels pity for had their chance of a childhood outside already, they could connect to others and find ways to do so. The only pity I feel is for the elderly and... toddlers, young children in the age of 4-7 years old. They will never play outside, never visit anything without being tested, will go nowhere without fear and that will influence their entire life because what is normal to a young child will be their new normal and what our future will look like.
