HEXHEXHEX | The beginning might be a bit wiggly | HEXHEXHEX

Like some cryptocurrencies do, or have done, voluntarily donating to a carbon offsets as means of acting and/or focusing on long-term sustainability, because as we have become knowledgable off the ludicrous energy consumption of both of the biggest, and expensive, coins of the cyptoverse: Bitcoin (BTC), its transactions as well its miners, and Ethereum coming a good second. EOS became the world's first major carbon neutral blockchain around nine months ago. EOS is compared to Bitcoin 66,454 times and to Ethereum 17,236 times more energy efficient. This is important, because this itself, carbon offsetting, does not solve the problem of cryptos' reaction to climate change nor offer a final, working solution for that problem. The lower energy consumption makes it easier to compensate with donations and/or using renewables, e.g., yourself (Solarpanels). This in turn makes the product sustainable which the future should be.

In a world where Bitcoin has been already over a century, the climate change speculation and talk and science is trending, and the news write on the rise of mental health problems ― depression and anxiety being the most out there, giving out some context for the researchers and scientist why both the earth and the humans too are not feeling well, but rather, suffering. In a world like that, like the one we inhabit, sometimes something mesmerises you, and you become overwhelmed and fascinated on something: a thing, a person, an art piece, a saying or a story, or an idea. I adore and love cats a lot, and while I for sure haven't always felt close to them, our paths have crossed and merged from two to one, and I am, quite delightfully, my brain has indoctrinate itself with cats: noticing them, liking them, focusing on them, trying to get to know them, obsessing over them. From this cat obsession of mine it was not but a matter of time when there'd be some in the cryptoscene I was getting a bit by bit myself more involved. * If I'd only would have known the know-how and have something to invest in, was not making enough from microtasking and making bad decisions (STONKS AM I RIGHT?), I'd made my own one. Now I would not, but I'd still be part of the designing, motif, and the like.

Then I got curious of Twitter and activated the one I had made for some reason and after I while of navigating myself around this new territory I found two $CAT tokens that captured my eyes amidst of all the other $CAT tokens/coins out there: Sad Cat Token, $SCAT and Pawthereum, $PAWTH. What made these two different was that they donations to animal charities both for cats, and Pathereum for dogs too. Sad Cat Token describes itself "Every week, the Sad Cat team make a publicly verifiable donation on crowdfunding platform Go Get Funding, which hosts cat rescue shelters and needy individuals from all over the world." and Pawthereum "$PAWTH charges a 4% transaction fee. 2% of the fee is going to the charity wallet --". $SCAT is on BSC and can be bought with BNB and $PAWTH with Ethereum.

Pawthereum is especially active on social media, at least from Twitter's POV, and the team behind out there. Maybe there's a hint of a wish from them as well as others, like hodlers, to $PAWTH gain value and make more profits. As with Sad Cat Tokens Dumpledore, Crazy Sadcat Lady, and Elob Mnusk are the faces of the project, they are rather obviously names of cats, not humans, so behind the, anonymously founded, independent charity ― donations can be seen here. The issue of trust is of course one thing, but I do like more the anonymous one over the other: maybe from a bias I am more interested in the one that does not look like a capitalistic project. Were not cryptos supposed to be something else than they have become? I'll get back to this regarding the used blockchain. The setting between the two can be viewed from many different perspectives. With $PAWTH you know how much goes to a chiarity ("2% of the fee") while $SCAT does not explain on their frontpage to the personne naïve how much goes to where and what the fuck is happening here: "so many decimals, and they mentioned burning, WHAT". On the other hand Ethereum gas fee prices have been ridiculously high recently, while the ones on BSC (BNB) are still doable even with smaller amounts compared to Eth, where you need to transfer at least $20, or something laughable like that, to cover the fees. This increases inequality as the other on Ethereum blockchain costs more, so the less unfortunate can not participate with it. When we take the previous mention of energy consumption into accord, it feels like even worse than before. AND I don't mean to hate on them, no, Eth 2.0 is on its way sometime in the near years in the future, which should make the fees more humane. IMO every token or coin that includes a name, context, or factual connection to any animals in their name should donate to an animal charity. Like all coins should change to renewable energy sources as possible and donate to transparent carbon offsets. As I am poor in Cryptoverse and could not afford $PAWTH, I bought some Sad Cat Tokens instead and think to continue to doing so.

There was this third one I came across, but it was for a microchip for cats, which were too utopian/sci-fish with its location tracking system and application, a catnip kind of chemical that could be administrated via the chip, and also a NFT platform for cats.

It was these ideas behind these tokens that made me interested. There are plenty of meme coins and the more serious and "serious" ones alongside with all the scams and rug pulls, but it was the question about where cat-related things could you use or benefit from these tokens, or coins? Charity of course, and the microchip made itself known as a thing, which could be utilized. Shelters and vets. With everything the sustainability and effects on the climate should be main concern as why do anything for the future, which is disturbing you in the long, or not so long, run.

In Finnish Parliament they are processing a proposal in which every cat should be chipped, which I am for too as all I've read points out the chip itself does not cause discomfort to the cats. I was thinking people could be encouraged to get their pets chipped, if there were a token/coin one could claim from every chipped animal. What to do with them is the question I do not know the answer for. Maybe with the vets, charities, and/or organisations could invest for the value of the "chip token". If vets would then take part and these could be used in purchases and/or discountable from the price. Maybe cat videos and pictures, essential part of Web 2.0., could be minted and sold as NFTs on a less consuming platforms.

The platform should be thought of. There is better options, as in lower energy consumption per transaction, like:
Algorand (ALGO), which uses PPOS and its consumption is negligible. They've partnered with ClimateTrade and are actively working towards carbon neutral blockchain network.

Polygon (MATIC), which uses POS and its consumption is negligible. "Polygon is an Ethereum commit chain for building blockchain protocols compatible with the Ethereum network using POS as the consensus protocol. Polygon claims that thanks to the SOP, the Polygon blockchain consumes only 0.00079 TWh annually."

Tezos (XTZ), which uses POS and its consumption is negligible. A Ethereum-like programmable blockchain. "Tezos even estimates that its energy consumption is equivalent to 0.00006 TWh/year which would make it one of the most responsible networks in the ecosystem."

IOTA (MIOTA), which uses Tangle and its consumption is negligible (about 0.00011 KWh). "The IOTA consensus protocol is completely different from what we see in Bitcoin or similar blockchains.

The Tangle works with acyclic directed graphs (DAGs) and allows network users (who pass transactions) to be directly involved in the validation of transactions. The validation of IOTA transactions therefore requires little computing power."

I need to get back to this topic when new ideas and/or projects have come to my mind, and in the mean time continue my participation in these charity tokens and few selected $CAT meme tokens and their community.

  • I have not been that involved nor interested in cryptos ever. I am part of the people who remember the 5 BTC faucet back in the days and it took me a decade or so to participate in it. I don't understand enough of it and there's too many things that I think needs to be fixed.
