Sword in hand, run towards the enemy and fight hand-to-hand in medieval times! Here I am reviewing such a game.

You may not be familiar with the game unless your paths crossed with the original Chivalry, which came out almost 10 years ago. In this case, I think we can quickly define it as Battlefield 1 Online, which takes place in the Middle Ages. We write at every opportunity that we normally do not have much to do with competitive online games. It's not tempting to play with snipers lurking to hunt players and people who take out players, not because they can aim better, but simply because they have a good grasp of the game code's weapon mechanics. But things change when it comes to close combat, of course. Unfortunately, there aren't many online competitive games with melee mechanics. That's why, when I encountered Chivalry 2, which is exactly such a game, I didn't want to pass the review for those who think like us.

Weapon mechanics need getting used to

Chivalry 2 is a game that can be played as both TPS and FPS. Of course, we recommend the TPS camera to those who are thinking of playing because of the melee mechanics. Because timing is the most important detail in this game. Do not think that you will use your weapons by pressing a single button. Depending on the move you will make, you may have to swing your sword by pulling the sticks of the gamepad left or right or up and down.

There are many different weapons that can be used in the game, and they all have their own power and, more importantly, timing. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you play the "tutorial" section, which is quite long beforehand. Of course, timing only works for you in one-on-one fights. But when you fall into a large group, death is inevitable. Therefore, my advice would be that you do not run to the front of the battlefield like a warrior. However, even if you stay in a crowd, the sword swing can help you inflict damage to multiple players. In attacks, we can make moves from right to left, left to right, top to bottom and straight forward.

Each move needs to be defended differently. It is possible to perform light, combo attacks, as well as single and heavy attacks. Of course, you also have to be careful not to hit your own soldiers. The biggest problem in crowded field battles, anyway, is our teammates running around, swinging their swords left and right. Although, this may be a very consistent situation in terms of reflecting the period. Likewise, we do not think that anyone paid attention to anyone at that time.

More mods could be nice

At game; There are "Mixed" modes, which are divided into 64 players and 40 players, as well as 3 different modes, "Free for All". In "Team Objective" focused ones, we try to kill the opposing team's king. The attacking side needs to capture a certain point within a certain time, so we can approach the castle step by step. Finally, the part of entering the castle and reaching the king begins. But every step leads to more bloody wars, and in a sense, the middle ages are revealed very vividly before our eyes.

In Chivalry 2, we can choose one of the Archer, Vanguard, Footman and Knight classes from the Armory menu. Thanks to our level increasing with our achievements in the game, we can buy different armor and weapons from this menu. Each piece has a different level gold amount it wants. In this way, you can show yourself as the most glorious military unit on the battlefield. Of course, players can access what they want by purchasing in-game currency.

However, this is purely cosmetic and not a pay-to-win situation. The music and voice-overs are really period-appropriate and the kind that will motivate the player and draw them into the game in a short time. Of course, understanding some maps and missions can be challenging for beginners. It is a fact that there are too many moments of chaos. It would be good to have more mods, which is the biggest factor that keeps this type of games alive.

My Conclusion

It's a game with potential, and there aren't many games like this anyway. Although we died many times during the wars, we returned to the squares again and again and enjoyed playing. Those who like medieval themes and close combat mechanics should definitely take a look.
