Good morning dear Community, today we begin with a very important topic . It is interesting that human beings have needs, and until we are able to satisfy those needs we will not be able to do what we want or achieve that satisfaction, in Virtual Variety we want to talk about the Psychologist Abraham Maslow, and his Theory of Human Needs or better known as Maslow's Pyramid, apart from creating this interesting theory, he founded the psychological current known as "Human Psychology".

Who was Maslow and what was his theory?

Maslow was born on April 1, 1908, in Brooklyn, to a Jewish family of Russian origin. In 1970 he unfortunately died of a myocardial infarction, leaving a great legacy, and much to be researched and studied. Maslow was the first of seven siblings, his childhood was not the most pleasant in the world, according to him; his father mistreated and humiliated him, to such an extent that his self-esteem was at rock bottom, his mother was not very loving either, he never had a memory of her spoiling him, or showing him affection, they were demanding, rough, and even cruel parents, a pity the truth that a child at that age has parents with such a bad heart. Besides suffering these mistreatments, young Maslow was a lonely boy, he suffered discrimination because of his origins and features, however Abraham got a refuge in books, he loved to read, to learn something new every day, thanks to his love for reading his intelligence and curiosity to know more about life was increasing.

When he was 16 years old, he decided to please his peculiar parents, and decided to study Law, but he understood that that was not what he liked and was passionate about, so he decided to leave his career, and began to understand what his destiny was, to be a Psychologist, because of that he moved to a University of Wisconsin, and began his training as a future Psychologist, in 1928 he marries one of his cousins, causing a great controversy in his family, in spite of that, he leaves aside the comments, and risks to be happy with Bertha Goodman, who gave him the love, affection and love that he could not receive in his childhood, in 1930 he obtains his Psychologist's Degree, and his life changes when he has 2 daughters. In 1943 he begins to write "A Theory of Human Motivation", without Maslow imagining it, his work obtained a great scope in many areas besides Psychology, they even began to use it in Marketing and Advertising. Maslow, in order to better understand this theory, created a pyramid divided into 5 levels, ordered according to the importance of those needs in our lives. According to Maslow, people look for a way to always feel fulfilled, but in order to achieve this we need to satisfy basic needs, In summary, it makes us understand that in order to achieve what we propose, for these satisfied, we have to make certain steps, from less to more, to make reality what we plan or what we want, maybe this is a little confusing, for this we bring Maslow's pyramid, to guide us, and explain each level.

  • Basic or Physiological Needs- These needs are those necessary for the survival of the human being, among them we have To eat, to sleep, to hydrate, to breathe, and even to reproduce, nevertheless these are the needs that were seen in 1943, in the heat of century XXI we could add him, to have access to Internet, to have access to the information and to be able to be communicated, among other things.

  • Need for Security and Protection - When we have satisfied those basic needs, the need for security arises, I have already eaten, I have already slept, I have already accessed information or I am communicated, however I need to feel safe, I need to have economic stability, I need to be sure of my health, I need to have a home, a good job, we all need to feel safe and stable.

  • Social or Affiliation Needs - When I already feel safe, have a good job, enjoy good health, another super important need for human beings is born, and that is to socialize, to be accepted by society, to have friends, to have a partner, to get along with everyone, and not to feel excluded, if we do not manage to satisfy this need, many problems will arise, because it is necessary to be in society, to be part of it, to be functional beings, with good relationships.

  • Needs of Self-esteem or Recognition - Self-esteem plays a fundamental role in the life of human beings, at the moment of carrying out activities, of making dreams come true, of working, and that is why Maslow places this need so important, we all need to feel good, strong, safe, respected, recognized, also have independence and freedom, and this can be provided by our daily activities, whether to achieve a career, course, diploma among others, to move up in the work, that we recognize our talent or skills, but above all it depends on us to maintain a high self-esteem despite the limitations, to obtain the above.

  • Self-realization - Very well, to summarize, we passed the basic needs, we began to have security in all senses, we began to relate, to have a very active social life, we began to obtain triumphs in our daily tasks, studies, our self-esteem is stable, we feel strong and good with ourselves, we reached the last level, but to explain it, Maslow divided it in these words: "growth motivation", "need to be" and "self-realization". When we have reached and completed the previous levels, and we manage to grow as people, we understand that each day is a new opportunity to learn, to improve as people, that we do not have to conform, that in this life we have to have various perspectives, that it is not just about being for the sake of being, is when we will have completed this level, but above all, is when we will find a meaning or justification to life, and this level we can achieve alone, without help from anyone, because our task is to know ourselves, evaluate them, skills, virtues, defects, what we like, what we don't like, what we want, where we are going, and where we are.

Maslow teaches us that in his theory these needs not only satisfy, but also influence the mood of the human being and his behavior, in spite of his hard childhood, lack of affection and love from his parents, that did not stop him from becoming one of the most influential psychologists in the world, creator of a theory that is still in force, and is used by different people and companies, without a doubt Abraham Maslow is an example to follow, and from Virtual Variety we regret so much that he is not given the necessary recognition, nor is he talked about, when his contribution changed the perspective that was had of human beings. It is worth noting that we are not all the same, and there will be people who do not feel the need for self-realization, which is more of a personal nature, it is a challenge, a conquest that each one of us sets out to achieve. It is necessary to clarify that if we manage to satisfy our needs, not only we satisfy ourselves, but also the people around us, this is not a competition, or to achieve this to achieve it, it is more to improve as human beings, nevertheless not all the people in the world can satisfy their basic needs, either by personal reasons or other ones, and it is regrettable that in such an advanced century, there are people in the world, who can not eat, have no access to information, no access to water, or even can not feel safe inside their homes, a real shame, we hope you liked this little post on Psychology and the great Abraham Maslow, tell us what do you think of these needs? , Did you already know them?.
