Working as an NGO, I was assigned to proofread and compile reports as part of the team research to the rural areas in Borneo. Our assignment was to do research on life of the community during the Movement Control Order (MCO) until the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO). Reading through one report to another, the Pandemic Covid19 really affect our life.
The MCO was announced on 18 March 2020 in our country. All grocery stores in the villages involved have been closed due to insufficient supply. The community cannot go outside to the purchase supplies for their grocery shop. MCO (following SOP) which only allows to travel with limitation of 10 Kilometers which make the owner of grocery cannot get enough of supply.
Food supply such as sugar, rice, salt and other than that such as petrol are very limited throughout the MCO. There is no delivery service and it is difficult to go outside to the nearest city.
Despite the strict movement control, the community still go through their daily life as usual. The community cleans farms and grows short-term crops such as vegetables. Community are free to carry out daily activities without police interference since there are in the rural area.
Most of the community expressed their worried about their children who were outside the village. Even more worrying is when the community is unable to communicate due to poor line access and there is no reload credit supply at the nearest store.
This is the situation in the rural village in Borneo.
