Mushrooms in a swamp
The other day, I was telling about my trip to a swamp where I was looking for cranberries. What I didn't mention is that there were also some bright red mushrooms, possibly Russula paludosa or Russula emetica. Some basic knowledge of medical Latin tells that you probably don't want to put the latter species in your mouth unless you want to test your digestive system. If you truly insist on tasting it, you would need to boil it.
According to Wikipedia, Russula paludosa grows in swamps (or bogs), so probably the specimens in my photos belong to the edible species. I am a mushroom fan but not an expert, so I have no claims to be right.
One of the mushrooms was probably ripe judging from its broken stalk. The swamp was pretty much deserted, so I wouldn't expect that a human pushed it on purpose. It could have been a wild animal.
Right next to one of the red mushrooms, there was something weird... I suppose a part of a mushroom - it seems to have gills. There must have been a stalk somewhere inside the pile of moss.
There was one more mushroom of a different species. I am not sure what it is.
