Bright and Vibrant Flowers in Bloom — With an Extra Boost

Yes, these photos are all overprocessed, but the extra colours make the flower pop. It takes a while to choose the right setting but sometimes I allow myself just to waste some time and relax. The photos came from my phone, so I put them through multiple apps to make them look less like snapshots.

First, I use the iOS Photos app to adjust the basic settings like brightness, contrast and vibrance. Then, I open the photos in Focos, which analyses the images and tries to estimate the depth information in the picture. It uses a machine-learning algorithm to tell apart the subject from the background. Then, based on that, it blurs the background, trying to emulate the shallow depth of field of a lens attached to a camera with a big sensor. It doesn’t succeed every time, especially with complicated subjects, but still, the result is quite pleasing in many cases.

After that, I use Mextures to apply various textures. The sky is the limit with what you can do. That’s why it’s also the most time-consuming part of postprocessing on my phone.

I went one step further with the photo of the forget-me-not flowers and used Photoleap to draw some glow and fake bokeh circles.

What do you think about the results?
