More and more people every day say their care about the environment, about the planet. That's great, so do I.
But many of them are saying one thing and doing another. Let's take YouTube as an example.
Remember when lockdown happened, YouTube had to temporarily cap the resolution of its broadcasts because so many people were watching videos. Temporarily, no 4K videos were available.
Actually, did you know that the higher the resolution of your video, the more data is coming down your connection.
And the more data that is being streamed, the more energy is being consumed by the internet infrastructure - especially in data centers.
Sure, you probably have unlimited internet to your home so don't pay more. But the planet will pay more.
So my ask of you is consider if you really need to watch everything in high resolution? 480 is the same as a DVD, do you really need to always watch everything in 4K? You might enjoy it more but your footprint in terms of energy usage is way higher. Please think about that.
