I was standing at the side of the road, waiting for a ride. I looked at the beautiful blue sky, it was mesmerizing. I saw a group of birds flying in the shape of the letter V. I took a deep breath and inhaled the fresh air. Aaaah! This is what I love about province life, the smell of fresh air and the wonderful views around. But amid this situation where I am enjoying the serenity of life while silently and patiently waiting for a ride, I suddenly felt like I’m staring into blank space, then flashes of lights started to block my vision, my head ached like it’s beating or throbbing. This is not a new feeling, and I am already used to this scenario. I usually have to deal with this, so I am used to it. This is the reason why I always have a container of capsules with me. So, when I always have to deal with the same situation, I just have to get a capsule out of the container and everything will be fine a few moments later.

Migraine.

What is migraine? Is it similar to a headache?

No, migraine is different from a simple headache. Like what happens to me, a person with migraine will be attacked by it from time to time. It is a terrible headache that when you have it, you may not able to continue what you’re doing.

Symptoms of Migraine

  • If you have a migraine, once it attacks, you will feel a throbbing headache on one side or part of your head.

  • You’ll be dazzled by the light and may feel like vomiting or nauseous. These two symptoms may continue for a few hours and worse, it can even take a few days before it goes away.

  • Before it attacks, a person may experience hunger, fatigue, may get cold hands and even becomes moody.

  • Before getting a throbbing headache, you may feel dizzy, you’ll get double vision, muscle weakness, and you may feel like you are being pricked by a needle. Others even have a difficulty in speaking or speech difficulty.

According to some studies, there are only one out of ten people who suffers from migraine although having occasional tension headaches are actually common to people. However, migraine affects women more than men.

Although it is not yet fully understood what he causes of migraine are, but it is said to be a disorder in the nervous system, and it affects the nerves in the head that carry blood. And that is the reason why there is a throbbing headache when migraine surfaces. When blood passes through the affected vessel, it results to a throbbing headache.

How to Avoid Getting a Migraine

Since getting a migraine has something to do with our nervous system, there is no way for us to change that. We cannot change our inherited nervous system. But there is a way to avoid migraine attacks, and here’s how:

Avoid eating or consuming foods that can cause migraine attacks. This can be done through monitoring yourself. Writing a journal to keep a record of what happened to you might help for you to determine the causes of your migraine. In my case, I usually experience migraine attacks a few days before my menstruation period. There are also instances that it attacks when I am both physically and mentally exhausted, when I ate something spicy, or when the weather is too hot.

Since I love writing, it is easy for me to write a journal to keep a tract of my experiences and that’s how I was able to determine the reasons why I get a migraine. Though to be honest, there are still instances that it attacks without the reasons I stated above. It was on random instances.

I was also advised by my physician before to sleep on and early and be consistent of my time of sleeping, eat my meals on time and to have a time to relax.

I found out that following these advices was beneficial, nowadays, I still get migraine attacks, but it was seldom.

I hope you learned something new from this article today. Thanks for reading!
