Night habits that are ruining our lives

Nowadays the difficulty to sleep has become a constant problem for people, including me.

When people fail to have quality sleep that allows them to rest and recover energy, they often suffer from anxiety, stress, and depression. That is why I wanted to investigate a little about those nocturnal habits that may possibly be affecting our lives and what we could do to avoid them.

The first habit that we must avoid YES or YES is not to disconnect from study or work when we go to sleep. It is very common that at the end of a day we have things pending to do from work or study and that is when we must know when to stop, turn off our computer and continue the next day. When a person is subjected to too much pressure, he usually develops disorders such as stress and anxiety that prevent him from maintaining a mental tranquility that helps him rest. Ideally, you can organize a schedule to finish your work or study and that you comply with it, that way you can dedicate all your attention to your personal matters.

The second habit and I think one of the most destructive is using electronic devices late. The light from these devices affects the production of melatonin, which is a hormone that regulates the quality of sleep. When we are exposed to this light close to bedtime, our brain believes that it is still daytime and remains active, therefore it is very difficult to feel that we are sleepy, this is one of the main causes of insomnia. The way to avoid this is to disconnect from our device an hour before bed.

The third habit is not setting a specific time to go to sleep. When we don't have a set schedule, it's very easy to get distracted by different activities during the night and it's much more difficult to fall asleep. In order to change this habit, we must first be clear about what time we want to get up and the number of hours we need to rest to feel good.

The fourth habit we should avoid is viewing content that affects our emotions. Many news, series or movies have a negative emotional impact on our lives, usually when we see it at night. This makes us unable to sleep well because our mind begins to reproduce those negative images that were recorded in our mind. If you stop consuming this type of content before bed, you can prevent these images from invading your mind and affecting your sleep.

Another habit is to have dinner late and in large quantities, eating too much before bedtime affects our quality of sleep because our stomach needs several hours to process the food. So if we eat very late, our stomach will be active for a long time, preventing us from resting well. The ideal is to eat in smaller portions avoiding foods that are very heavy.

The sixth habit is to drink coffee. Caffeine has a stimulating effect that alters the sleep cycle, if you drink coffee in the afternoon or when night falls, what will happen is that when you go to sleep your brain and your nervous system will be activated producing insomnia and causing you to wake up throughout the night. You can replace coffee with relaxing infusions that will help keep your mind calm.

The seventh habit that we must try to avoid is not planning what you need for the next day. This is a mistake that we often make, but if before going to bed you plan what you need to start a new day, you will wake up without so much trouble, but always keep in mind that you should not become saturated when planning so that you do not overload yourself with information.

Note: I am new to this platform. If anyone has any advice or suggestions I am willing to read them and learn from you.
