As you noticed almost everything that we do involves money. When we travel to our respective workplaces and schools, we need money to pay for the bus or train ticket. When we go to marketplaces and shopping malls, we need money to buy the things that we need and wanted. Even the electricity, water and Wi-Fi that we use every single day in our houses involves money. However no matter how we wanted it, we don’t have the enough money. As we spend our money to pay for the bills, food and other expenses it gets little and little every time. Up until we no longer have even a single penny left in our pockets. When this worst case scenario happens we then start to worry and feel agitated.
As a college student, I myself is not an exception. I myself struggle with handling money. You see I myself uses money in my everyday activities, especially that we are having online classes. I need money to buy cellphone load, so that I could attend my virtual classes online. I need money to buy supplies and materials to do my activities, assignments and projects. Not to mention that I also need money to buy a new charger for my laptop. For without my laptop dealing with my school works would be hard. Nonetheless despite of all these difficulties and hardships that I had encountered throughout my journey. Instead of ranting why I don’t have the enough money to meet all ends I started to become money wiser.
Becoming wiser towards using and spending money had helped me big time. Since I started being thrifty with the money I have earned from tutoring children and publishing articles online I am able to help my parents on our house expenses. Such as by no longer asking money for buying supplies, materials and cellphone load for my schooling. I know it may seem small, but at least I am able to lessen the financial burden of our family and it makes me happy. By now I am sharing with you some of the things that I have learned as I started becoming wiser towards spending money and I hope just like me it will help you ease your financial worries as well.
1. make a budget plan
Creating a budget plan will help you organize, track and improved your expenses. Taken for example in my experience. Before spending my money, I seek to it that I had made a budget plan beforehand. By doing this, it had helped me towards determining in advance how much money I would be needing in a certain period of time. Moreover it also helped me identify what are my necessary and unnecessary expenditures. Which in returned helped me lower down my expenses as well.
2. avoid buying unnecessary things
Scrolling through a shopping app or strolling inside the mall will truly test how strong you are towards controlling yourself against temptation. Especially when there are many discounts and sales present. However if you let your temptation consume you, surely you will end up buying unnecessary things. As a way to avoid this and to protect your budget. Learn how to weight things by asking questions to yourself such as “do I really need this one?” or “is it really worth it?” After doing a self-assessment, it is best to buy the said product after a week. For if your urge to buy that product had perished after a week, then don’t buy it.
3. learn how to buy and cook your own food
Eating outside or ordering food is good. But don’t you know buying and cooking your own food is way better plus it will help you save more money. When you buy your own ingredients at the groceries you will know how much they will cost, and if you are lucky enough you might find an alternative which cost lesser. Furthermore cooking your own food, will help you learn a life skill you can bring with you until you get old. However if you aren’t an expert in the kitchen, you can still learn by watching cooking tutorial online as well as asking a friend or a family member who knows how to cook. It may take a while, but you will surely learn it. All it takes is the right amount of perseverance and persistence.
4. be thrifty
Being thrifty not just only mean that you are smart with money, but also with your resources. Taken for example in my experience. When writing an assignment or activity I first write it on a back of a used paper. When I am finish and satisfied with my output that is when I transfer it to a clean sheet of paper. By doing this I am saving my yellow paper and avoiding errors, which is the reason why my yellow pad easily runs out.
5. earn your own money
If you can and if you are willing as well, you can earn your own money. You can do it by any means for as long as it is right and just. Such as selling your preloved clothes online, making desserts and selling it to your neighborhood or doing part time jobs such as tutoring and babysitting.
6. save money
Saving money is the highlight of being a “money wise”. Saving is an important practice we should impose to ourselves. For by saving money it will help us lessen our financial worries, avoid debt and provide us money in times of financial needs. Moreover if you want to buy something but you don’t have the enough money yet, you can have it by saving a portion of your money. When the time comes that you have collected the needed amount, then you can buy that thing that you have been wishing for.
