Load shedding is a provocative question in Bangladesh. The production of electricity cannot meet the demand of the present electricity consumption. The rural electrification projects have ended in smoke for the dearth of supply. For the want of production. The supply of electricity in some areas are cut down for a certain period. The Total need for electricity- in Bangladesh at present is more than 2800 megawatts. The highest load shedding so far recorded is 500 megawatts. We have gas resources of about 80 trillion cubic meters but this, gas is yet to be utilized or going into operation. Only 38.22 of gas is used to produce about 1100 megawatts of electricity in fourteen gas turbine generating projects located at Ashugonj, Ghorashal, Barishal, Sylhet, Chittagong and other parts of the country. At present, Kaptai Hydro-electricity projects produce 230 megawatts of electricity. So, we can utilize our gas resource to be free from the cause of load shedding.
