In my travels around the world, I came across many stories of strange creatures with monstrous appearances, some are so rare that one would think that they are not of this world. But the description of this animal that lives in the lakes of Chile is really surprising, its shape is so strange that it is very difficult to believe that something like this exists.

Its body seems to be the skin or leather of a cow, it remains inert floating on the water in search of prey, when it gets a victim, it quickly wraps it up making a roll, as if it were a Shawarma.

In its lower part, The Leather has sharp claws, with which it penetrates its prey, extracting all the blood until it is completely dry. Some witnesses say that this cryptozoological animal has two large tentacles on its front part from which a pair of large, bulging, penetrating, and terrifying black eyes sprout, similar to those of a snail.

With such a description, anyone would think that it is just a legend, but in recent years two videos of encounters with this creature in the lakes of Chile have come to light.

What kind of animal are we dealing with?

Some biologists believe that the encounters with The Leather may have their origin in the sighting of giant freshwater manta rays. However, these animals are believed to be extinct since prehistoric times.

Although in the 1990s, photographs of fishermen who supposedly caught one of these freshwater manta rays became popular in the Philippines, if true, perhaps a surviving variety of these animals may currently inhabit the lakes of Chile, and it has been popularly baptized as The Leather.
