Stress management techniques you can apply throughout the day
Unfortunately, it is impossible not to talk about stress in the world we live in. Especially nowadays. The news we see on social media as soon as we wake up in the morning, the traffic we have to go to work, the meetings we have to attend, the problems in our personal lives, stress is always with us. Even as someone who embraces positive thinking, there are times when I can't get out of situations.
However, even at such times, I try to find ways and methods to deal with stress in some way. For example, even breathing exercises that you can easily apply are a small but effective start. Yes, in a way it is impossible to eliminate stress completely.
But that doesn't mean you can't deal with it. While it's not possible to eliminate all stressors, you can take control of your reactions and master them. The key to successful stress management is to take a proactive approach. This stress management technique will help you feel calmer no matter what life throws at you.
Focus on feeling good first. Instead of feeling lost from the moment you open your eyes, plan to do things that bring you joy. Focus on what you really like, rather than what you need to do to do it. For example, if doing morning exercises feels good for you, keep going, but if it feels like a commitment, try a different approach.
Set firm boundaries. As Jim Rohn said, you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Take this to heart and observe what kind of people you surround yourself with and how much you compromise with them. Perhaps it is the people rather than the situations that make you stressed. Don't let other people's emergencies become your emergencies.
Make room for fun. No matter how hard and boring life is, don't wait until you are done to have fun or think of it as a reward. The happiness and fulfillment in your life doesn't have to be earned. So try to incorporate fun elements into your life as much as possible. Such activities are also proven to reduce cortisol (stress hormone) levels.
Don't fantasize about situations that didn't happen. The first step to living a stress-free life is to stop thinking and analyzing imaginary scenarios. Such thoughts won't do you any good. Stop living in the future and with assumptions.
Pay attention to the big picture. The next time you realize you are stressed, take a deep breath and focus on this: How important will the problem you are obsessing about be for you in the days ahead? To avoid hurting yourself, stop overthinking things you can't control and just try to focus on the bigger picture.
