Punakaiki - Pancake rocks, New Zealand 🇳🇿 (Video link down below) For my first post for my new weekly theme of ‘rocks’, I am sharing a very unique Geological feature called Punakaiki, or pancake rocks! I think you can see why this is called pancake 🥞 rocks! This is on the west coast, South Island. This is limestone that is thought to be formed up to 35 million years ago deep below the surface, with high pressure forming this ‘pancake’ formation. It’s called Stylobedding. There’s lots of blowholes too where the waves crash into areas and erode chimney style blowholes! I have a video showing some blowholes https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XH98ZgJAmWI skip to 6.24 for Punakaiki :) This is also a great spot for wildlife! Many birds, seals and dolphins can be seen from here :) Peace and love to you all!
