People Who Mocked God

1 19

As you all know, Christianity is one of the most popular religions around the world. In this religion, religious people share the life and teachings of Jesus with people who also believe in Him. There are many Catholic Saints who have claimed to see God and were able to spread the word about it. Most of these saints are documented as people who have performed a miracle for once in their life to be able to declare as a Holy Person. The literal definition of having a piece of evidence to see God is not always the case so having a new saint requires a generous amount of time of dedication and documentation to be able to know the life and story of one human being.

But besides those who actually believe in God, there are some people who turned their backs against Him, in a way that it is so hard to believe the reason why they did it. You probably know some of these people and may be able to tell the consequences they had after mocking God.

John Lennon

You may have heard of Lennon as one of the members of one of the most popular bands in the world, the Beatles. The band was able to sell millions of copies of their albums and made lots of people sing and jam to their songs. Up to this day, their name is still being recognized and acknowledged by the music industry.

As part of being famous, people often forgot about the meaning of life. And even though not everyone believes in God, respect for Him and His name must be done. Just like how Catholics respect other people's beliefs and religion, the same must be done by non-Catholics.

Even though Lennon was not reported to be a Catholic, he and his family often go to church and was performing in a choir during his childhood. However, in March 1966, he made a statement that made a shocking scandal up until modern times. His exact words were "It will vanish and shrink….We’re more popular than Jesus now.". At that time, Lennon believed that Christianity was sinking and rock 'n roll will take over the world.

By December 1980, Lennon was shot four times by a man named Mark David Chapman as he enters a luxury apartment at The Dakota, New York. According to the killer, he was angered by Lennon's public figure and lifestyle, as well as his recent statement that made headlines.

Chapman was an obsessed fan of The Beatles, but it clearly shows that he is truly in more love with his faith rather than with another human being.

The killing was not right, in my opinion, but at the same time, a statement like that from Lennon is never right. It clearly shows that pride and popularity have taken over him and was not able to deliver a positive message towards his supporters. His ego and pride by how successful The Beatles became gave him the time of death.

Stephen Hawking

As one of the most popular scientists in the world after Einstein, you probably have heard of Stephen Hawking once in your life. You probably saw him in news as a guy who is in a wheelchair. That situation happened after his fall while ice skating and was diagnosed with "degenerative motor neuron disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)" and was even told that he could only live for two more years.

He made books dedicated to Science itself and was even seen in movies. As a person who is dedicated to Science, it might be obvious that about 80% of these types of people are most likely to believe in the law of science rather than the Bible itself.

From the moment Science had become a thing in life, it contradicted how life began. The Bible has its own interpretation and story of how the world began and that is by God making the living and non-living things. As for Science, the world was made by the Big Bang Theory (not the TV show). It almost implies, not just the world, but how the universe was made. Either way, you decide on what you believe but on the other side, how can we possibly tell how the world began when the existence of dinosaurs has more evidence than the beginning of the world.

As Hawking, who believes more in science than religious beliefs, once wrote, "I have no desire to offend anyone of faith, but I think science has a more compelling explanation than a divine creator."

Unlike the previous person, Hawking's statement towards the existence of the Creator is not that appalling, however, for an individual to say that until the end of time, a possibility of God's existence will never be true is never a right statement. According to Hawking, "For me, this means that there is no possibility of a creator because there is no time for a creator to have existed in."

As I've said before, if we have no faith in God as the Catholics do, we don't have to put up unnecessary statements that are against Him. Even though we have the freedom to say our own beliefs, it comes with responsibility with respect towards other people. Some people may accept it, some people may not, and some may have something to say rather than a curse word.

Tancredo Neves, Former President of Brazil

Politics, every now and then, are always a topic when it comes to negative issues surrounding a country. Whether it talks about a dictator who just wants the best for himself/herself, about illegal organizations that are still operating despite having laws against it, about the decisions being made in terms of a country crisis, or about corruption itself.

When you are elected or running for a leadership position, it is not uncommon that most likely you are trained to be as tough and intelligent as you can be. As you are to become a leader, you must always put yourself in a position where everyone is happy and comfortable. However, that is not always the case. Not all people are nice so we do have leaders who don't listen.

"If I get 500,000 votes from my party, not even God would remove me from Presidency." - Neves

In 1984, Neves ran for presidency with the help of Ulysses Guimaraes, a Brazilian politician. And from the above statement, you can see how sure he is that people will vote for him and that he will win. Well, in fact, he did get the votes but was not put into position as he fell ill before formally announcing him as the new president.

Now for me, if I were to vote at that time, I consider it as a red flag already. How in the world can you trust someone who had that kind of ego that will blow off the roof of any house in Brazil. I understand that maybe at some point, you and your works might be popular but to see yourself as the top of it all was never a good idea. Technically, God didn't remove him, he made himself removed from the position.
