How to speed up metabolism
Metabolism; The rate at which body cells burn energy is called Each cell of the body expends energy in a different way and at a rate. In a different sense, it is the minimum amount of energy the body needs in 1 day to maintain its basic functions.
Basal Metabolism is; It is the amount of energy the body spends in a day at rest. This corresponds to 60% of the total metabolic rate. In other words, the cells in the body spend 60% of the daily energy taken under normal conditions. 10-15% of the remaining energy is spent during the absorption of the food we have taken. This energy is spent by stomach and intestinal cells. The remaining 15-30% is spent by the striated muscles that provide us with mobility during the day. Therefore, the more active and exercise we do during the day, the higher the metabolic rate will be.
First of all, liquid and solid foods that we take into our body are absorbed from our intestines and pass into the blood. These foods are; After it is broken down in the intestines, it passes into the blood as fat, protein and carbohydrate (Complex sugar). Fat, protein and carbohydrates are sources of energy. Body cells consume only glucose (broken sugar) under normal conditions. If people have irregular nutrition and unbalanced diets, then body proteins are also burned, causing muscle loss.
Factors Affecting the Working Rate of Basal Metabolism
1. Age: Every age has a certain basal metabolic rate. The fastest period is between the ages of 15-30. After the age of 30, metabolism begins to slow down, especially after menopause, the metabolic rate decreases.
2. Genetics: Children of those who are overweight in the family may also be overweight. This affects the innate metabolic rate.
3. Constantly gaining and losing weight also slows down the metabolism.
4. Metabolic diseases
While the rapid work of the thyroid gland accelerates the metabolism; slow work slows down.In case of excess cortisone hormone secreted from the adrenal gland, metabolism slows down.Excess insulin hormone secreted from the pancreas (hypoglycemia) also slows down the metabolism.
5. Gender: Both basal and total metabolic rate are higher in men. The fact that the striated muscles in men are heavier and stronger has a great effect on this.
6. Excess carbohydrates during the day (sugar, pasta, rice, doughy foods, sweets) slow down the metabolism.
7. Stress and depression slow down metabolism.
8. Long-term very low-calorie diets slow down the metabolic rate
How Can We Speed Up Our Metabolism?
At least 2-3 liters of water should be drunk during the day.
Spicy foods, especially red pepper flakes and black pepper should be consumed. Try to live an active life during the day.
Walking should be done at least 3 days a week for not less than 1 hour. A balanced diet should be taken care of.
When the air temperature increases, the metabolic working rate also increases. It slows down in cold weather. For this reason, more weight is gained in winter. It should be fed little and often during the day. (3 main meals and 3 snacks) Starting the day with breakfast, having the main meal for lunch, and a light meal in the evening help speed up the metabolism.
Drinking 3 glasses of filtered (unsweetened) coffee during the day helps speed up the metabolism.
Acupuncture therapy also increases the metabolic rate.
