Why God has given us the gift of the sacrament of Confession?

0 20

God gave us the gift of the sacrament of Confession in order for us to repent from our sins and live a new life away from slavery to sin. We are given a chance to confess our sins wholeheartedly and ask forgiveness to be reconciled with God.  We do this because our conscience is always knocking whenever we know that we commit sins. It does not and cannot undo what has already been done but if we confess wholeheartedly, it can cleanse and heal our soul. God knows that we need a way to heal and mend our broken hearts caused by the guilt of committing sin. By letting grace overflows in us, our souls are renewed and refreshed. We can feel that God touches our hearts and our souls by confessing to Him as well as the presence of the Holy Spirit. As God instituted in James 5: 15 – 16, “the prayer of faith will save the sick man and the Lord will raise him up again; and if he has committed any sin, he will be forgiven.  So confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, and this will cure you.” He still willing to forgive us even though we turned back to Him and continuously commit sin. His arms are wide open to always welcome us to come back to Him. As sin damages our relationship with God, we should not continue to fall short and sin again. Following Jesus is the only way to turn away from sin every time temptation comes into our lives. For us to be able to accept God’s gift of reconciliation we need to allow Him to rule our lives and offer ourselves to Him. As was written in Romans 6:12-14 “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master because you are not under the law, but under grace.
