Modern Silent Movies: Fool's Gold - a Dolaucothi Love Story
What started out as a bit of fun has gone on to have a life of it own winning 8 international awards, gained a IMDb listing and qualified for the 2017 BAFTA Cymru awards.
'Fool's Gold - a Dolaucothi Love Story' is 8 minute silent short movie was shot entirely on an iPhone 6s, it was filmed over a day and a half with the support of a great cast of work colleagues from the National Trust's Dolaucothi Gold Mine (Britain's only known Roman Gold Mine), doubling as crew.
The DVD cover notes reads:
"Thought to have been lost, this forgotten treasure from the golden age of Welsh silent cinema was recently discovered in a box of broken mine lamps by Dolaucothi Gold Mines’ archivist and occasional tour guide ‘Seismic Sam’.
Made in 1927 and inspired by real events, as well as an outrageous moustache, Fool’s Gold tells the timeless tale of boy meets girl in a dimly lite mine passage, amidst the backdrop of a bitter struggle for the control of the Dolaucothi Gold Mines and the keys to the Johnes’ family fortune."
