Trigger Finger Remedies and Physiotherapy

Mosammat Khurshid Akhter (fictional name) Age-45 years, mother of 2 children, housewife. He has been suffering from pain in 3 fingers of both hands for a long time. She has diabetes (for 6 years) in a controlled condition. The type of finger problem is that it is difficult to straighten and sometimes gets stuck. Dr. orthopedic for a long time. Showing, gave some painkillers and steroid injections on one finger.

Initially it was good for a while but after a while the pain came back intensely. At present his daily work is being disrupted, now it is difficult to hold anything with his hands. The orthopedic doctor advised her to have surgery.

A senior official in her husband's workplace was suffering from the same problem. He came to CPRC and got physiotherapy treatment and advised him to take physiotherapy treatment.

The problem that this lady is suffering from is quite familiar to us. This is what we call ‘trigger finger’ which we call ‘Stenosing Tenosynovitis / Tensosynovitis’ in the language of medical science. The middle finger and the fingers on both sides are more commonly affected but can also be on other fingers. We have a lot of tendons in our hands. These tendons are located in a tunnel. It moves nicely and easily through the tunnel when we use our fingers. This tunnel is called Tendon Sith. This tendon sheath contains some tissue which we call puli. These pulleys hold the tendon tightly between the muscles and the bones. If someone has inflammation in this pulley, it is difficult to bend the fingers or straighten from the folded position. Then we call it ‘trigger finger’. Nodules are often seen. If it is severe inflammation then we cannot straighten or fold the fingers.

The cause of this problem:

1. So far no specific cause of this disease has been found.

2. The disease is more common in those who work hard.

For example: typist, banker, garment worker, housewife etc.

3. Certain diseases such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis who have been suffering for a long time.

4. Another big reason recently is that it is becoming alarmingly prevalent among those who have been using smartphones for a long time.

Medical procedures:

Now the funny thing is that the conventional system is not very effective for this disease because in most cases the medical system is not effective mainly due to not having a clear idea about why the disease is happening. So first we need to give the patient a clear idea of why the disease is happening, what the next problems might be and how we can get rid of these problems.

A physiotherapist can easily do some specific therapeutic exercises, specific therapeutic stretching, DTFM (Deep Transverse Fraction Massage), Cryotherapy (Ice), Splitting / Tapping / Assistive Device, LASER, UST, Problem. It should be kept in mind that physiotherapy alone is much more effective than conventional treatment for this disease.

Corticosteroid Injection / Cortisone Injection may interact with the following drugs and products: In most cases, the problem returns after taking Corticosteroid Injection without physiotherapy treatment. However, in some cases the need for surgery arises and has to be done. However, in order to regain normal hand performance and complete hand movement after the operation, physiotherapy treatment must be taken immediately after the operation.

It may not get better after all the treatments or the problem may come back if the patient does not control his diabetes and does not exercise according to the physiotherapy doctor's prescription.

So if you want to get rid of the 'trigger finger', take the treatment as per the prescription of the physiotherapist. Hope you get well soon.
